Thirdly, the abuse may be caused in many cases due to peer pressure. All in all, we can now clearly see why this has become a norm. Young people today crave attention and would do just about anything to get such recognition and status the rightfully think they deserve, that is to be on top. In addition, the level of exposure some students might have been a part of, that is, abusing drugs such as cannabis and substances such as alcohol, may be seen as a ‘kool thing’ and, therefore, is taken advantage of. Because of the recognition and status of students, abusing drugs and substances seems like the only possible ‘kool trend’ they can use to get this. The use of drugs and substances by some students in other cases is to help them release some level of stress and pressure they may be under. That is, the use of psychoactive drug or depressants helps them to escape domesticated stress and pressure they may face at home, work, the classroom and other such cases. In addition some may use performance enhancing drugs or stimulant drugs to help them stay focus because of their struggle to produce good grades. The everyday stress and pressure some students are under have, therefore, lead them to abuse drugs and substances. In other cases, due to peer pressure among the students the abuse is caused. To be a part of a specific group, this may be just one of the activities that are required by its members to be a part of, that, therefore, leaves the individual no other choice but to participate and not be seen by their peers
