Since 1971 education cost has increased from $4,300 to more than $9,000 per student. As seen in Bianca's case, her mother cannot afford to pay for her tuition and Daisy's father is unemployed. These kids are forced into "bad education." Some students do not have any aspirations. They live in a neighborhood full of crime therefore their main focus is survival instead of learning.
The mandatory age to drop out of high school is 18. After conducting many researches I strongly believe that this should remain the same. Although many students believe that they are not achieving anything from school and may feel it is a waste of time. Still not an excuse to drop out all dropping out do is make your life harder. At age 16 my aunty dropped out of high school and her life has been a living hell ever since.
Jenifer McKee May 15, 2011 English Comp II Lehman The American Dropout Crisis The United States is facing a high school dropout rate of epidemic proportions. One-third of public school students fail to graduate from high school (Bridgeland, 2006). One high school student drops out every nine seconds, so before you have completed reading this essay over 100 students will have dropped out of school (Bridgeland, 2006). While this epidemic seems insurmountable, it provides an opportunity to make changes needed to our educational system. With many ideas and proposed changes presented to legislators and educators nationwide, one of the changes proposed by many states in raising the compulsory school attendance age or more directly the
Can I live with myself if my actions cost the life of someone? With this report, I will focus on ways to stop people from texting and driving. The downloading of an app, parents being role models, and state laws should deter you from becoming a statistic. Distractive driving is costing us dearly and technology seems to be behind the loss of lives.
Failing a course is a major set back for some people. When students have the opportunity to retake a course most do not because they feel like it is a waste of time, or they just get lazy and do not want to do it at all. Also, failing a course can also be embarrassing to some people which leads them to give up and not worry about the course. Personal problems that occur within the household can also be a major factor on why teens drop out of high school. Some personal problems that can cause drop outs are pregnancies, marriage, and ect.
Another point researchers bring up is saying punishing kids by law makes more people think before drinking and driving. “ The law would make so that people would think twice about drinking and driving” (Thomas). People agree with this because no one wants to go to jail so it makes them to think twice about doing it. Overall being punished by the law shows kids/adults would not be able to get away with drinking under age and driving
Family issues are also one of the important factors for students to drop out. Sometime student have no choice to go to school, because they need to take care of their family members, especially if they have senior members or younger member in the family. In this case, eighty percent students will be more likely to drop out from school. Financial problem is also a big issue for student. The huge gap between rich and poor in this
The disgraceful thing about this situation is that coordinators of these institutions aren’t even educating these children, so that when they are done serving their time they can do something productive. So now the state has to pay to keep them detained and educate them when they are done serving time. By the time they get out they aren’t going to go back to school because they’ll most likely be behind a grade level or two. They don’t want to be ostracized in a class room full of 11 year old children and if they’re 14. Now the only choice they have is to be picked on or go back to doing the same thing that landed them in jail because they don’t even have an elementary or high school
Poverty is known to be the major cause of school dropouts. The inability to pay school tuitions and fees, to purchase books, and to have the opportunity to enroll in good high schools and universities lead people harshly to leave school. In addition, recent research reveals that a huge amount of school dropouts is the result of poverty, and it does not enable people to enroll in good high school and universities, whereas government is putting a blind eye. In fact, we can notice a lot of poor people in the rural regions who are complaining most of the time that they do not have enough money to afford tuitions simply because these families earn the minimum salary. Students who live and study in an unusual way cannot outperform at school, and this is one reason in which students decide to leave school.
Another reason why is people who leave home will not be able to work full time so will not be able to get somewhere to live or be able to buy food and clothes. A lot of people will want to leave school and start earning money because they have enough GCSE’s to get a good job. Also will schools be able to discipline 17/18 year olds who can drive and get married etc, for example in class a teacher would feel a tad silly and weird telling a 18 year old to get outside and think twice before chewing
