Cultural Observation I was able to travel with my wife EunYoung in March to her home city of Seoul, South Korea and visit with her friends and family. While we were there, one of her childhood friends was getting married. We went over to the wedding hall and meet up with other acquaintances of hers before the ceremony. Arriving at the wedding hall I noticed a wide range of ages both male and female. Being the only “white” person, I do receive a lot of stares from the people there. Most of them come with smiles, but some come with the look of “what the heck is this guy doing here.” Luckily I was able to have my wife close by as my safety blanket so I didn’t look too much like a wedding crasher. The wedding was beautiful the couple looked very nervous at first but looked like they had eased into a more relaxed mood towards the end. After the ceremony the couple stayed around to take pictures with friends and family. I was able to go up and stand on the grooms’ side during the picture taking. I would like to see a copy of the picture sometime, in a picture of around fifty people; I bet I stick out like a sore thumb. We stayed around the hall for another couple of hours and ate, waiting for Eun’s friend and her new husband to finish their rounds greeting and thanking people for coming. We then meet up with the wedding party to go out to a restaurant. At the restaurant it was mainly open tables with seating for around one hundred people or so. It was now night time, the place was very bright and well lit no problem seeing another’s face in the room. My wife’s’ friends are in their late twenties, both couples are very similar in age, while at the table I sat across from DongGu the new groom. He doesn’t speak and understand very much English and I don’t speak and understand very much Korean, so we had to go through my wife to communicate with each other during
