The week of graduation I was both happy and sad. I did not understand what my best friends meant by that feeling until that week. If I would invest the time needed to organize I would have received a better grade. English has never been my forte in high school; I failed one whole semester because I was infected with senioritis. My mentality was that I didn’t HAVE to do anything because graduation was just around the corner, but boy was I wrong. This set of mentality pushed me back in my senior year and it prohibited me from enjoying my last year as my friends were living it up at all the parties while I was home finishing up my online class as a result of my failure. Online classes required self determination and a lot time.
I know that with my high school requiring school uniforms I was able to wake up an hour later for school. Which was so much better for me since I stayed awake doing extra projects. With everyone wearing close to the same things, it is harder to guess socioeconomic background and discriminate because of it. Uniforms in schools have helped more children want to come to school since they know that they will not be picked on. One of my mentees told me that he would skip school because the other students would pick on him.
Nowadays I really don’t mind going to school, but I really hated it before. This year of school isn’t all that important to my career, it’s more the foundation of my education. Throughout this year I’ll be learning all the basics of working with automations, which is going to be necessary no matter what I decide to do once the semester is over. Once I finish this year of school, I can choose two ways to reach my goal of becoming an automatics engineer. I can either continue the automatics education I’m taking right now, or I could start taking Intermediate general education classes.
