Challenges of teen parenting Teens have a lot of decisions to make like what college or university to go to, should I tryout for sports? Or should I focus on my studies? What should I have for dinner tonight? All these are all really hard decisions and getting pregnant at a young age just makes everything more confusing. Some of the hardest challenges of being a teen mom has to do with the physical, emotional, financial and academic challenges. Your baby needs a lot of nutrition and when you’re a teenager all you want to eat is pizza and mcdonalds (take it from me) so you need to be very careful the kind of food and other substances that your putting into your body because that will affect your child. Teenagers need to consume 2x the amount of food for the baby. This is because your body is still growing, so it needs nutrients for yourself and the unborn baby to prevent additional stress for your body. You will need to eat one more serving of nearly every food group than a pregnant adult in order to provide the same amount of nourishment for the baby. This means that you should consume four servings of dairy, three servings of meat or poultry, four servings of fruit, five servings of vegetables and 10 servings of bread or cereal each day. Most teens don’t know this so when the babies born they have physical challenges and defects. Another physical challenge is being able to do everything that you used too do when you weren’t pregnant. I know a friend who used to play lacrosse, she had a scholarship to a school in the states to play lacrosse but in her last year of highschool got pregnant and she had to throw away her dream of going to that school.
