“By tying grades to money, we give students incentives not to take risks” (Vogel, 392) that stop them from choosing challenging courses in college. Students find easier courses through word of mouth or websites that previous students rate their professor in. I always ask people who previously took the course I am interested in whether or not I have a chance of passing the course with a C or higher. Students are afraid of putting their grade point average at risk because the grade point average is a component of the application process that helps colleges decide who to accept. .
We were all somehow exposed to different backgrounds, as well as lifestyles. Therefore, it’s safe to say that the statement “Is College for Everyone” doesn’t imply to certain people who were raised to think otherwise. However, Pharinet seems to think that most kids should consider not going to college at all. Pharinet went on to explain how most students will find themselves working full-time jobs to help pay the expenses of college, in result their grades begins to drop. Then the student decides to drop to a part-time worker, register for less class hours to find more time to work on improving their grades.
But college drop outs also can able be due to the unequal college preparation given in high schools. The education system needs to be reformed so students have the opportunity to choose whether they want to go to college or do vocational training instead. A college degree is bringing more negative aspects into a student’s life therefore students, especially from working class, must know the alternatives to be able to succeed. Most of the students in the United States are middle or working class. In addition of going to school, working class students also have to get a job to be able to help out their families.

Usually having mingled classes with both male and female is a good part of the college experience since it gives the opportunity to expand a persons social circle and gives the chance to intermingle with the opposite sex. Some students have come from all boy and all girl high schools, which they may not of experienced the opportunity to socialize and talk with the opposite sex. Saying all of this, I am against the Anti Co-Mingling Legislation because I believe that socialization with the opposite sex will help later in life, having the opposite sex in a classroom does
Instead of worrying about the pay off the students should be concerned with developing all they can intellectually. The author then expresses their feelings towards multi-year contracts. They tell how tenure plans which would be more beneficial. They believe that professors have no motive to improve their skills when rewarded with tenure plans, for themselves or their students. Another thing mentioned in the article that people who come to teach in a college that are not actually considered teachers.
One cause of hooking-up could be because of stress. College students are put through a lot of hard work in the years they are in school. People may just want to release stress from their bodies in a sexual way. It will make them feel better and boost their mood in the moment. Releasing stress in a sexual manner can also make them forget about all the stressful things such as, study for a huge test they have coming up or not stressing over if they will pass a certain class.
Many seek a higher education for employment purposes. There are a lot of people who are in classes only to achieve a raise or to get advancements in their jobs. Many students seem to think that they may only do the basic work in order to ‘skate by’. Professor X, in his article titled “In the Basement of the Ivory Tower”, seems to believe that many people attend college because they can; or they take classes based on the job market, not because they have a desire to learn. He is unhappy with the college system of today.
Most current college students feels as if there are way more cons of being a college student then pros simple because of the stress and length of time, it takes to complete college. Then you have those students who come and leave college, get caught up and regret they ever left. I guess college is one of those things that really depend on person, attitude, and determination. If you didn’t get anything out this paper I wanted you to get the point of not letting someone choose college for you, don’t even let college choose you, you pick up a book, computer of magazine and you choose college. Like most high school seniors, I felt I knew everything I needed to pass by life. The thought of college very rarely crossed my mind so after high school all I was thinking of was all I need to do now is find a job. I quickly found out finding a job isn’t as easy as everyone who tells you. When I did think of college, I kept telling myself “I think I should take a few years off from school to find work.” Boy was that the worse idea I ever had, and now I wish I could take it all back. Unlike most high school students I didn’t attend a normal class, I felt the teacher was going too slowly at times and there was never any stress from other Students.
College right after highs school is not for everyone. I do believe that all people can benefit from a college degree when the time is right for them. Returning to college later in life can be the result of real life career experience and the realization of what it really takes to get ahead in life. Motivation, learning style, and career goals can have a great impact on your success or failure as an adult student. I tried college right after high school but dropped out because I felt like I was wasting time and money.
