ASSIGNMENT – CAMP HAPPY VALLEY Question 1 answer: His influence is a positive one due to the fact that the he has worked there for the last 4 summers, and knowing a lot about the camp itself, the organization, the staff, the kids and the programs that were offered, people trusted him. He’s filled with pride and enthusiasm about the place he works at, and the role of leader that he will undertake. The least experienced staff went to him always for advice, so he is a loved and admired person at the camp, which will raise the morale of the other staff members. Question 2 answer: Factors that motivate someone to work at a camp or return to the camp again to work are: opportunity to spend the summer working with friends; getting a camp experience without the commitment of staying overnight; desire to work with children and help; having fun while working; working outdoors; learning different skills that would benefit them in life and future jobs. Question 3 answer: The stakeholders in this case are the kids/campers and their parents. The implications of a “poor morale” of these kids is that their behavior can change for the worse, cheerfulness, laughter and smiles disappear, accidents and sickness take their place, making the kids more prone to sickness, depressive state, absenteeism and injuries. Question 4 answer: Factors that have contributed to the current camp environment are: Organizational structure of the past summer’s staff training week was a major contributor to recent problems at the camp: - monotonous and dated training made staff members get bored quickly - team spirit activities were delayed to the end of the day when staff members were already tired and didn’t care for team-building activities; - low ratio of staff to campers; - staff members became lonely with no team bonding feeling, which made the kids’ attitude mirror the staff’s
