Western Europe, Africa and the Americas are all regions that have greatly affected the Atlantic World throughout history. Although several aspects of these regions have changed in the pursuit of economic and social success in the Atlantic World, several vital, as well as hindering, continuities have stayed with these respective regions. The enlightenment resulted in the idea of using a democracy to govern, the power of the government from the people, natural rights, freedoms, equality and individuality, all aspects that the French people were fighting for. The first incident or revolt that basically began the French Revolution was Bastille Day. On July fourteenth, 1789, there were rumors in the city of Paris that the king was collecting troops to arrest representatives in the city. In the city was a Medieval Fortress named the Bastille, which at the time was being used as a fortress and an armory. The Parisian people proceeded to attack the fortress to possess military supplies and weapons in defense. The common people completely destroyed the Bastille. To the people of Paris, the Bastille was a symbol of the Absolute Monarchy, and the destruction of it, the end of the Absolute Monarchy. The destruction of the Bastille was seen as the beginning of the French Revolution for it was the first successful attack against the Absolute Monarchy. Many successful revolts and movements would accumulate following Bastille Day. There were many results of the French Revolution. These technologies included new farming implements and methods, Railroads, steam engines, and the telegraph, to name a few. This was the beginning of what would come to be known as the Industrial Revolution. There are several reasons why the Industrial Revolution Began in England. Britain had many resources, including timber and steel and iron ore. It also had a stable government, which allowed for the people to begin industrializing in the first place, harbors for trade, a very large population resulting in a very large workforce, and many water ways throughout the country to transport materials and products as well as to use for water power at mills. There are several reasons why the Industrial revolution started in the first place. One reason being that there was widespread resistance to disease in Europe as well as a reliable food supply, allowing for steady population growth, which in return created more demand for products, which in turn resulted in new ways of producing products more efficiently in response to demand. As a result of Industrialization, a new economic philosophy arose. Capitalism called for the lack of government intervention in the economy. It relies on natural laws, Competition, supply and demand and good workers. Capitalism was to run off of the self-interest of the people. Capitalism resulted in many new inventions and innovations.
