In the article “Why the world needs women entrepreneurs” Tory Burch, chief executive and designer of Tory Burch points out that in today’s world where globalization is taking place and the economy grows rapidly women become more and more crucial as entrepreneurs. She also implied that in 2014 this issue would be especially visible, because today more and more enterprises and societies invest in women’s entrepreneurship. In her opinion, women entrepreneurs have a different point of view on world and business from men, therefore, they accomplish different things. Even though today millions of women have senior positions, a huge equality gap still exists. There are just a few countries where women have the same business opportunities as men,
There will come a time when a woman has a tremendous amount of success coaching males. The existing prejudices will slowly disappear and more and more women will get involved in coaching. “The lack of a women's coaching network will be one of the issues that will be taken care of by the passing of time. As more and more women enter the profession, a network will slowly begin to build. This will also take care of the lack of women mentors in the field.
As a result, women seek health care in much greater proportion than men. Men, on the other hand, traditionally shy away from the health-care system, and we are only now starting to understand why that is. Men tend to view partners and friends as primary health sources. When they do reach a physician, men tend to focus more on physical problems, and are less likely to discuss deeper emotional issues -- particularly if the physician is female. Perhaps most influential are perceptions around male masculinity.
In addition, people thought that women are too sensitive when they face to problems so they often solve the problems by their heart than their mind. But people was wrong with that thinking, because the presence of women in leadership position have been increasing during the past decades. According to Stuart Silverstein (1993) a writer of Times website: "The number of American women in management jobs nearly doubled during the 1980s, reflecting
Sharpe’s believe this could be because of the changing attitudes of society in general towards women and the impact of feminism. Mitsos and Browne (1998) say that the service sector which is traditionally seen as women’s work has expanded. Employers usually like women in this sector as they have good communication skills and the rise in the employment of women has given girls the incentive to do well at school. Mac and Ghaill claim that the decline in male employment opportunities has led to an ‘Crisis of Masculinity’ as many boys now believe they have a less chance in a getting a proper job. This undermines their motivation and self-esteem therefore they give up on trying to do well in education and have a fatalistic attitude towards it.
From the beginning, wifehood and motherhood have been regarded as a women’s profession. They were not seen as breadwinners or professionals. As history has told us, women were considered the weaker sex, doing jobs such as laundry, milking cows, and taking care of children, leaving the “heavier” labor to the big strong men (wic.org). With technological advancement today, physiological test suggest women have a greater pain tolerance and statistics show that women live longer and are more resistant to many diseases. In the 20th century, women in most nations won the right to vote, this in return increased their educational and job opportunities.
In studies provided by the Census Bureau, women proved to have worked more hours per week than men. Vanderkam feels the pay gap is reasonable considering women are beginning to work more hours, but some Americans argue that social inequality is now in favor of women. America is always going to have competitiveness with employee wages. While this is seen as social inequality, it sometimes is morally fair. If women are working more hours than men, many people find it reasonable for women to make more money.
Edgell says that women do most decision making frequently on a probably daily basis, but their decisions go unnoticed whereas men make fewer decisions more infrequently but they seem to be the more important decisions such as moving house or buying a car or other serious financial decisions. A radical feminist would say that Edgells study just outlines the fact that we are living in a patriarchal society and that men are viewed more highly and have more power and control in the relationship, and that women are just used for everyday menial tasks. In conclusion, there is much to y for both sides of the argument but it is difficult to decide either way. It appears that there is some equality but we have a long way to go before actual
Women have been progressing by receiving more rights to be equal. After realizing the importance of education, and beginning to hold various positions in the workplace, women started noticing that they held an important position alongside men. “By the 1990’s nearly half of all workers were women and the majority of the working age women held jobs outside the home.”1 Despite all these people continue to view women as mere objects to men and inferior, and not people. The media communicates images of sexes, majority of which perpetuate stereotypical, unrealistic, and limiting perceptions. Media represent gender in three different themes.
In an increasingly pluralistic society, fashion and style are more individualistic than ever. In terms of the female vogue, we now dress more for ourselves than ever before. With patriarchy in the western world at an all time low, females are becoming less and less the male fantasy and more an image of their own success, although the global struggle of the feminist movement is far from over. This progression of society can unquestionably be seen in contemporary fashion as it has played a massive role in allowing many to express themselves and the growing values of today. "It’s no secret that assembling an outfit is like selecting social armor, and that what we wear has power over others".
