A Critique of Bunting's Feminist Analysis Model of Women with HIV
The purpose of the study is clear in which the author constructed an analysis to integrate and conform feminist principles from nursing literature and proposed a feminist model to fill the gap founded in the feminist methodology literature by reviewing eight articles from nursing journals of woman with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The significance of this study is important to women and the oppression they are confronted with when having HIV, and the application of nursing being able to apply feminist principles during research or the analysis of research. Furthermore, the model proposed will aid nurses to develop and critique their own analyses. The analysis will make a practical contribution in assisting nurses to integrate feminist praxis principles to guide nursing research.
The introduction is well organized. It gives some background information relating to the link between women’s mental health and the oppression women are confronted with in health care practices. Due to the oppressive practices women endure in healthcare, the reader gets an understanding of why the feminist principles are being used more in health care practices and research as a remedy. During the introduction, the author briefly explains how she chose eight articles from nursing journals and examined key statements made from each of the eight authors that conformed to feminist criteria. This was helpful to the reader during the introduction in understanding what criteria the author was examining before reading the analysis. The review of the literature obtained from the reference section of the article is up-to-date at the time it was written and dates back as early as 1985 to 1996. The research is
