Discuss the factors that contribute to prejudice and discrimination and identify some techniques for reducing the development of prejudice and discrimination. Prejudice and discrimination have been prevalent throughout human history. Prejudice has to do with a negative attitude held by a person about members of a particular group, while discrimination refers to behaviors directed differently against people because of prejudice toward the social group they belong to. Prejudice is the attitude and discrimination is the behavior that can result from the attitude. Discrimination can be controlled by laws, but the prejudicial attitude can’t be easily controlled.
Justice is what is seen to be right and just by society and this means that society is catered for. However, an outsider does not conform with society so what they may think is just is different to society. These conflicting views mean that societies justice can be placed on the outsider. Outsiders are often isolated, they don't fit in or necessarily want to fit in . They often don't pick up on the nrules or cues society have to operate.
1, 2, Societal attitudes and beliefs can impact individuals with sensory loss in quite a negative way because people in society can be very judgmental towards people with disabilities, and put them in a group of people with below average intelligence and assume they can’t do or think the same way as other people without disabilities can. People in society can also be very prejudice and ignorant and think they are better than people with sensory loss, also thinking it gives them the right to make fun at them and making life difficult in the process. Although not all people think the same way there are many other people in society that are very open towards individuals with disabilities and sensory loss and can be very helpful and kind, this can have a positive impact on people’s lives. 1, 3, There are a range of factors that societal attitudes and beliefs impact on service provisions, discrimination is one of the biggest problem in today’s society , people with sensory loss are treated differently, and there a lot of barriers that need to be overcome, service provision is a term used to describe a wide range of activities, including the provision of assistive devices, rehabilitation services, occupational therapy and health services. Unit 393: Understand Sensory Loss Sensory loss is an impairment of any of the senses. Without probably realising we use these senses to carry out everyday life. Sensory loss can lead to isolation and frustration for individuals who suffer with these losses. Factors may be simple things we take for granted, for example people who have difficulty hearing and seeing may not be able to enjoy watching TV, a telephone conversation, or be able to distinguish between people’s faces and so on. People’s attitudes and beliefs towards people with sensory difficulties may impact negatively on individuals as they may assume that they lack understanding; quite often it may be those who are making assumptions who are acting incorrectly in accordance with the impairment; for example, people may use a raised voice when speaking to someone with a visual impairment.
Underreporting occurs due to individuals being dishonest regarding their behavior, therefore causing an error in the research done. A possible solution to this limitation is focusing on observed behavior, and correlating the findings with the self-reporting behavior, therefore developing a conclusion that is more in-depth. Furthermore, Article 2 emphasized that other factors can influence self-labeling as a victim in relation to work-place bullying, not just anxiety and anger. In addition, discovering a moderation effect regarding negative acts of violence and self-labeling is hard to discover due to the psychological way an individual may experience an event. Furthermore a lie is about simply being selfish. A person can be lying about his qualifications just to get to that stage where he is recognized by the others. He might be suffering later on, however. If a person is short of patience, he will use all sorts of reasons to lie and just to get away from others. This way he will not waste his time and not making a bad impression on other people as well.
That person doesn’t realize that the other person was the cause that they failed. The other person then feels guilt for doing that bad thing to that person. That bad feeling this person is feeling is guilt. Everyone one experiences guilt. Guilt may occur when someone doesn’t mean to hurt someone else that it’s not their intention to do that.
