Photo #23 in the Robert Yager photo series entitled Gang Photo published on Photoloco.com depicts a baby sleeping alone on a bed cluttered with dolls, a bottle of milk, guns, cash, and also drugs. However, realizing that the picture was taken in a Mexican gang community, it is unexceptional to see a young child surrounded by dangerous stuff. It seems that Mexican gang members do not really care about their child’s safety. For instance, the photo presents drugs and guns, which are obviously inappropriate to put close to an innocent child. Undoubtedly, guns are harmful for children. They may kill themselves as they do not know the real function of guns. Furthermore, drugs use in children can lead to brain damage, cancer, and many other negative implications. In other words, Mexican gang members treat their children destructively as they have already become part of gang community. Yager’s photo implies that a child of Mexican gang members will become used to the gang lifestyle from the time he is very young. This is likely to happen because parents in a Mexican gang community tend not to conceal any of their destructive habits in front of their children.
