Kenia Marrufo Central Park Five As citizens from America, we call 9-1-1 as a resolution to protect us. In 1989 the policed proved to the city of New York they are not the ones who can always solve our problems. A group of teenagers (The Central Park Five) were charged for attempted murder and rape, which is known as the infamous crime “The Central Park Jogger”. From the start the boys are all innocent, but the police think differently. We turn to the police to solve our issues at any given time and there should be no excuses on why they can’t. As the citizen of the U.S I believe the police were responsible for the traumatic events that these innocent boys had to face due to the manipulative remarks, racial profiling and the lack of effort. The teenage boys were from age 14-16, just by looking upon the fear in their eyes the police took this as an advantage. The boys were videotaped during their confessionals one by one. Since, they were under-age some of the boy’s parents were present during the interrogation. Police used verbal manipulative remarks towards the boys like, “Antron said it was you who raped her, Raymond” or “If you tell us what happened, you can leave.” In reality, the boys just wanted to go home because they were exhausted, since the police would not give them food or water. During these years hate crimes were popular and was commonly focused within the black and latino community. This persuaded people to stereotype these ethnic groups violent and made people fear them and made police chase after. Based by the looks of the boys the police and court quickly judged them guilty, because of racial discrimination even though there was lack of evidence.
