Drugs are good. Just kidding but shouldn’t we at least consider the consequences of the zero tolerance policy? Drug abuse in schools today is a major problem. Zero tolerance policy is a great way to stop the drugs but some of these rules are enforced just a little too harsh. I have seen drugs ruin people’s lives and tear apart their family, there is no doubt that anyone should be doing drugs, let alone kids. The zero tolerance policy is no good for kids, we need to have a different way of going about punishment. Is a zero tolerance policy absolutely necessary? Zero tolerance policy is needed for controlling drugs, but there are negative effects of this policy. Take the legalization of medicinal Cannabis in Colorado and Washington or music stars that use drugs because they have the money and don’t have to worry about education. Kids think that they can use drugs because their idols or maybe even the government in other states says its ok. But kids need to realize that people in Colorado and Washington use medicinal Cannabis to help them with pain. Kids need different idols If theirs are using drugs. Well like I said previously there are many ways that we can go about stopping the abuse, Such as programs like KACM that show kids that drugs are bad Like Catherine Bradshaw, Sherry Gately, and Keri Jowers stated in their article about KACM, “the KACM drug education program is a SAMHSA (2005) "model" program which aims to prevent substance abuse in elementary school children by educating them and their parents about the dangers of substance abuse, and helping students develop strategies for resisting substance abuse.” This program would be an awesome way to show kids the dangers and bad things that can happen if they decide to do drugs. We can also stop the availability of drugs. We need to take down all of the drug dealers so the kids loose access to drugs. Like Dr. Manny Alvarez said in his article, “We have to get better control of the flow of these drugs or there will be enormous consequences. We have to have better partnerships with the pharmaceutical industries that manufacture these drugs, and we have to appeal to state legislatures to create safety barriers to help control teen drug abuse.” Dr. Manny Alvarez is absolutely right we have to control the drugs from getting to these
