Billy Smith Professor Wright ENGWR300 1 May 2013 Decision We Face My life changed when I got hit by a van. I was faced with multiple decisions such as whether to get surgery or not, continue to work but in a different department or stay at home and even to continue school or take the next semester off. Every decision I made effected how the next day, month or even years would be like. We are all faced with tough decisions that impacts the future. What makes people different from one another is how well decisions are made based on the ending results. On Christmas Eve in 2011, I was involved in a car accident. I was clearly not able to do the same task I was doing before because I could barely walk at the time. Crutches became my best friend real fast. The choices were beyond clear either stay home and mope around the house doing nothing at all while being broke or take a few more days off and return to work with a position that accommodated my needs. Anyone that likes getting paid like myself would’ve made the same choice as I did. I was then placed as being the operator and my duty was to just sit there and answer the phone. This job was way easier than the last but my pay was cut drastically. Maybe the right decision was to stay at home and try and collect unemployment but if I were to do that my job security would’ve been up for grabs. The surgeon told me the options I had with the surgery. He would either cut or repair the torn piece or give him a preference of what to do. He didn’t want me to have a preference because repairing the meniscus would be a longer recovery but be better for me in the long run. If he cut the torn piece off the recovery would be a few weeks but may cause arthritis earlier than usual. The decision I had to make was to give him a preference for a six month versus few weeks recovering, early arthritis or not or no preference at all. He couldn’t determine what he could actually do until he was in progress with the surgery so I gave him no preference at all.
