Our country prides itself on encouraging its citizens to better themselves through education. (P) While its priority has been high school graduation, many jobs now require college degrees, making higher education more important than ever. While I understand that every American should be expected to sacrifice during this hard time, just as we were in World War II, I feel that this particular sacrifice would put our country in an even worse state. (S) Our work force will not be prepared to handle nor understand the advancements that we have strived so hard to achieve. College is made to prepare students with the newest information possible, so that we can constantly be improving ourselves and be able continue to compete with the world’s leading nations.
Similar to the ideal of our Nation, to increase education and accessibility to all, for our country is better when more people get degrees as our company is. To have any real sustainability as a company, education is a primary factor in the success, not just for the elite few, but also for the masses. “The admission culture of selective colleges today is characterized by a rising degree of deception and –no doubt, unintended –cruelty” (Delbanco 117). The selectivity of colleges, especially those of Ivy Leagues, can be hard to put into comparison with other colleges and universities. Ivy Leagues run on their own system, and no one can tell them how to do things because they have been established in America the longest. Colleges do not do this on purpose; it is just the way the system works. “Recruited athletes, alumni children, faculty children, members of historically underrepresented minority groups, and ‘development cases’ have an advantage, and by the time they have all been accounted for, the number of slots remaining can be extremely small compared with the ever-growing applicant pool” (Delbanco 117).
They could also go and learn a new language or tour a different country. “Learning a foreign language is a skill you’ll have for the rest of your life and one that employers find very attractive” (McKay). Taking a gap year will help the students gain many personal skills that they will use in the long run. Did you know that many academic benefits come with taking a gap year? “Gap year students show a clear pattern of having a higher GPA than would otherwise have been predicted, and the positive effect lasts over all four years” (“Data”).
I know that with myself, I go past y old limitations on a regular basis. I am always pushing myself to a point where I am better than I was the day before. I have reached an understanding that my strengths and limitations are completely dependent on my will push to be better. These two subjects are reliant only a particular person’s drive to succeed. For example, my weakness is English in school, but I am getting stronger at it because I push myself through limitations rather than give up when I have reached my limit.

Moreover, students need to understand that attending a college provides a lot of advantages that others might find lacking later on in life. As today, the economy growth in the world is becoming more competitive so a college education is extremely important.
It’s very hard to type a paper or study for a test when you have a nine month old that wants to get into everything. I honestly think that is one of the stressors that get to me the most so I have decided to get a babysitter when I have very important things to do like a big test or project. Another stressor I face is living with another college student and only having one computer, it’s very hard to choose who gets the computer when we both have very important things to study. This also can lead to arguing; only causing more stress. We sat down and worked out a solution we ordered a new computer, we only hope this helps us get more college work done and in a timely manner leaving us with less stress.
