What is the impact of mass media on the 21st century? The media today changes our ideas about the world, our perceptions and even our life’s. Mass communication, like electronic media, were inventions of the twentieth century, though invented earlier, were essentially reinvented in the last 100 years to reach a mass audience. Mass media, for the last few decades has been the most powerful tool used by the media to manipulate the masses. Mass media are media forms design to reach the largest audience possible. Mass media feeds the society with news or information, entertainment and education. Mass media has greatly influence society in so many ways. Most of the time our decisions, however, because of media today, we mostly rely on mass media to get the current news and facts about what is important and what we should be aware of in our daily life. It also helps increase the knowledge of people today. People will have a sense of what is happening around them and how things work in another part of the world. We can view the world and get information of what goes on around us without being physically present in that place and increase our awareness of the people in the world. Mass media might help to promote healthy behaviors through ad campaigns showed on television; however a negative influence in mass media is that the use of guns and ammunition on the media by celebrity movie stars, would seduce teens to replicate the same behavior in real life. When we watch an action movie, there are many images of violence and people hurting each other, this could become a traumatic scene for some children especially when they are in a stage of life where they trust everything they see.
