Unit 008 The roles and responsibilities of any teacher are wide ranging. We must ensure that we deliver the curriculum set by the awarding body in a style appropriate to our learners, considering their expectations and those of their parents and employers and their learning styles, which we will identify. Unfortunately the cost of all resources has an impact on the delivery of any course whether it will lead to a qualification or to gain a new skill so we must deliver value for money. We must conform to all current legislation, regulatory requirements and codes of practice taking into consideration our environment and risk assessments. Not only will the diversity of our learners be valued but we must promote equality in all aspects of our role as a teacher or facilitator.
1 UNIT 012 Principles of assessment in lifelong learning Furthermore the assessment could be formal (with constraints and validation of knowledge) or informal (any time by oral questions to know how much learning is taking place) depending on area being assessed. When I plan assessment, I aim to consider the “5W+H: Who, What, When, Where, Why and How” to be sure that both students and I are informed of all the requirements. It is important to insure that all information/learning material follows these main criteria: • • • • Valid - appropriate to the subject. Reliable - continuity for all students. Fair - appropriate to all but differentiate for any
Explain the functions of assessment in learning and development Initial assessment in identifying learner needs The Initial assessment (IA) process could be classed as the most important information gathering process. It not only allows the teacher to decipher if the student is enrolling on the correct course for them but also to collect details about the learners past educational experiences, upbringing conditions i.e. a care environment and any particular learning issues. The initial assessment can be both formal and informal. Formal IA may be application forms, references and other relevant documentation.
In the design stage, lesson plans are created to provide directions for learners to apply their knowledge and skills. The design phase would be specific to the content at hand by documenting the projects visual, technical and instructional strategies. There would be order so the project goals could be met in an organized fashion. It is important that Bloom’s domains be utilized to fit all types of learners. Using Affective, Cognitive, and Psychomotor strategies, my training program be tailored to reach all audiences.
This will ensure that every student has the highest possible chance of success. • Plan and design The roles here is to be an organiser and researcher. It's a teacher’s responsibility to plan and design a course in such a way as to ensure that it meets the specific needs of the learners. Some courses are constrained by the subject of the material and can only be delivered in a certain manner. Following a syllabus becomes essential as it enables the teacher to map the learning outcomes, and the aims
As a member of management it is even more vital that i am aware and up to date with all the legislation and guidelines as part of my role is to guide, support and influence other staff to do well in their own role. My own professional development does not only impact on myself but other staff, the setting and people who use the service. Continuing professional development is a life long process of learning which enables staff to fulfill their present or future roles more effectively as maintaining a high standard of professional competence. Every early childhood professional has a personal responsibility to develop and maintain their knowledge and
The delivery of a cross curricular curriculum is one that overlaps and coincides classroom subjects with one another, Shoemaker (1989) identified that the endeavours to deliver he numerous strands to the curriculum entwined within a number of lessons to replicate real life. In agreement, Kerry (2011), in a case study, highlighted that cross curricular methods reflect the cross curricular characteristics of life. This overlap encourages the information learned in one circumstance to be a knowledge background in additional circumstances (Collins et al. 1989). To define cross curricular teaching, Shanahan (1997) describes that a cross curricular method is one of planning and establishing teaching around a thematic approach making it possible to amalgamate teaching across the core areas of the curriculum.
It's understood that different people assimilate information with different learning styles such as auditory, visual, and kinaesthetic methods. Understanding your students abilities and needs will ensure the right balance of methods and activities to be used. Other points of referral which are available to meet the potential needs of students include: Discretionary Learner support fund, Citizens Advice Bureau, Job Centre Plus, Deaf Association,
Explain the functions of internal quality assurance in learning and development | Quality Assurance is an important requirement within the learning process to ensure that correct standards, procedures and processes are not only effective and up to date but also to ensure that learners are progressing at an acceptable rate that is relevant to their skill level. It is the responsibility of the quality department to ensure that the integrity of the qualification is maintained by continuously updating their information regarding latest versions of standards, legislation, funding requirements and external requirements, such as Ofsted. The IQA should carry out functions that will aid the assessment process, such as Standardisation; ensuring all
The students are expected to meet specific requirements at each grade level. With the guidelines established by the Common Core Standards we can feel certain that each and every parent, teacher and student can understand and support their learning. The Common Core Standards may vary by subject or state but these six remain consistent: The material must be clear, understandable, and consistent, aligned with college and career expectations, based on rigorous content and the application of knowledge through higher-order thinking skills, built upon the strengths and lessons of current state standards, Informed by other top-performing countries to prepare all students for success in our global economy and society and research and evidence based. According to the available data and evidence, if each standard is completed before the time of high school graduation the student is most likely to proceed to be successful in college, a career choice and life in
