Canada is one of the most diverse countries in the entire world. It is both geographically vast and ethnically diverse. We welcome all sorts of cultures and encourage the idea of the cultural mosaic. It would be nearly impossible to create a Mt. Rushmore-like monument in the Canadian Rocky Mountains because many people have contributed to the formation of Canada that we all recognize today. Since Canada is so multicultural a Mt. Rushmore-like monument would be hard to create as it wouldn’t please the entire nation because of the vast groups of people within Canada. He spent over 40 years within the government of Canada and can be praised for various accomplishments within Canada. Tommy Douglas is largely responsible for many great freedoms that are unique to Canada. Without Douglas there would not be an old age pension, unemployment insurance, central baking, and universal Medicare. Therefore someone as outstanding at Tommy Douglas should not go without notice. Many countries all over the world do not have the freedoms of having an old age pension, unemployment insurance, central banking, and universal Medicare. Sir Thomas Douglas was also the driving force behind the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Without the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms Canada wouldn’t have any set political and civil rights. For example Wayne Gretzky has popularized a wonderful national sport. He has become a great model for many people of all ages and hockey has become known as Canada’s sport. Other amazing athletes, such as Terry Fox, make our nation proud. Every year thousands of Canadians run for a cause and for a cure. This type of support is what makes a country so strong whether it is political and economic support or support for a good cause. All across Canada there are countless examples of how we commemorate and praise the achievements of our nation. For example at the University of Saskatchewan the main building is named “Place Riel” after Louis Riel. This sort of regional recognition is popular throughout all of Canada and is somewhat like having little “Mt. Rushmore-like monuments” all over Canada.
