The nitrous oxide gases affect the aquatic ecosystem food web chains, which leads from the smallest phytoplankton up to the largest mammal, which is man. The methane and the chlorofluorocarbon on the ground level effects the farm animals and vegetation of the farming community, leading to crops yielding less production, which will affect the economy. The long-term effect of climate change has medical consequences. Some medical conditions are upper respiratory damage, skin cancer, and asthma; such conditions have ended in death of some citizens. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Justice are two government agencies that regulate companies that violate the Clean Air Act.
Combustion of organic compounds can result in detrimental impacts on the environment such as the generation of acids and production of carbon monoxide, particulates and soot. When organic compounds that contain sulphur, nitrogen are combusted, the reaction may produce gases such as sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and carbon dioxide. When these compounds react with water molecules, it will produce acids which fall as acid rain.Acids dissolve calcium carbonate, meaning that monuments made from marble and limestones are particularly vulnerable. In environmental terms, acid rain flows into water bodies. Acid rain releases aluminium from the soils into the water, an element which is highly toxic to many species of aquatic organisms.
Atmospheric Pollution Environmental Science SCI 275 University of Phoenix July 29, 2011 BY Reigard U. Brown Sr. The paper that I am writing will be about one of the problems we have in the world is Atmospheric pollution. Atmospheric pollution is the introduction of chemicals, particulate matter that cause harm or discomfort to humans and living organisms in our atmosphere. There are many different ways that air pollution can be omitted into the air we breathe like pollution that comes from house cleaning products, older model cars, energy plants, and forests fire.
The controversy of environmental pollution has affected our security of economic cost, causes harm to our health, destruction to our structures. To start, when people get illnesses caused by pollutants in our environment, they are forced use their income on their new medical expenses. Expenditures that would never have come to be if not for the lack of care for the environment. This leads to more spending and a lower standard of living for the family. Money that was used for the “extras in life” would go to medical needs.
2013).Pharmaceutical companies sometimes place active chemicals and waste into groundwater sources, in which almost all of the groundwater may be untreated which most likely cause contamination. (Herber, 2002). Abstract: Increase in the emissions of carbon dioxide by burning fossil fuels is the largest cause of environmental down grading resulting not only in global warming but also causing acid rain which alters the pH balance of ground water. Water is a universal solvent; however, its dissolving properties are very sensitive to changes in temperature and pH. Global economic growth has, unfortunately,
The wind blows these acidic gases into building, cars, homes and trees. Water that runs of these buildings adds acid to the acid rain, making the combination more acidic than regular rain. Acid rain is measured by a pH scale, the lower the number, the more acidic, Vic versa. The effects of acid rain are, damages of forest soils, fish and other living organisms, it also affects lakes, streams and causes aluminum to be highly toxic to species and aquatic organisms. In North America acid rain affects the Adirondack and the Catskill Mountain in the state
Acid rain causes a change toward more acidic conditions of rain, fog or snow and it negatively affects forestland, soils, lakes, rivers, and ground water. Aquatic ecosystems experience one of the most direct effects of acid rain because an entire body of acidified water can affect the predator-prey relationships of the food web by causing a decline in certain species (Mehta, 2010). According to Mehta (2010), although governments have passed laws requiring a reduction in emission of these harmful substances, it will take many years for our ecosystems to recover from acid rain. The key sources in production of acid rain are sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. Sulfur dioxide is released as a by-product of the combustion of fossil fuels containing sulfur.
1b)Coal is a fossil fuel, which means when it is burnt it releases unwanted pollutants which have a negative and harmful impact on our environment. These pollutants are: Carbon Dioxide- This gas is considered to be the most harmful pollutant as it contributes to global warming. Coal is attributed to approximately 20% of the total pollution globally per year of all the fossil fuels. Sulfur emissions- when sulfur mixes with oxygen a harmful substance is formed. SO2, sulfur dioxide effects our trees and water systems and is the prominent cause of acid rain.
Because they are hazardous. As in documentary they showed in an ad that fracking is safe. But what they mean by safe? If water, air and noise pollution are created by fracking then how it is safe! Fracking also created huge natural losses such as it crates pollution, destruction of forests to create its pipe lines.
Fuel combustion and automobile transportation are two large factors of air pollution. Both factors release a production of heat and chemicals into the atmosphere causing for an excessive amount of wasted heat. Furthermore, the problem of extra heat leads to the production of a number of harmful health issues and environmental scrutiny. Global warming, global community has long been a vocal advocate and critic of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Hundreds of disease oriented and professional health provider organizations have provided pollution, smog, and ozone layer damaging are all results of air pollution.
