The Role of Automobiles in Society As our technology advances, we discovered better ways to live with great convenience like the invention of different means of transportation such as the car. Almost every American home owns a car nowadays because having one is already a necessity. A car can make people travel easily and let people have more chances to communicate, it bring more social mobility. The development of the cars has contributed to changes in employment distribution, shopping patterns, social interactions, manufacturing priorities and city planning; but increasing use of automobiles has reduced the roles of walking, horses and railroads. The impacts of the cars in society may be considered good or bad, because cars are responsible for some of the changes in this society. One of the biggest impacts a car has is the access and convenience for a person. Another one is the environmental impacts towards the environment. Last, the cultural and economic changes in the society. Worldwide cars have allowed easier access to remote places. However, average journey times to regularly visited places have increased in large cities, as a result of widespread automobile adoption. This is due to traffic congestion and the increased distances between home and work brought about by urban sprawl. Moving from one place to another by land becomes easier with one having their personal transportation. The person can choose whichever road nearest to the place a person will go hence saving time having their own car. Shopping would be more convenient knowing that one have their own time when leaving from the house and going back home after buying everything one need; unlike in public transportation there are specific schedules to follow.
