I kept having to return to my initial question to avoid missing the point. At times I felt that I was not getting anywhere. I now understand that this is all part of doing research and, over time, I discovered some interesting themes. Writing up the dissertation was also a challenge. I had to disregard a lot of information that was not entirely relevant to my research question.
My Harold Bloom Response Reading Harold Bloom’s How To Read and Why essay one would believe the main idea is to read mostly to connect with the literature. This happens when the reader understands the scenario occurring and can picture it happening within their own life. “What comes near to ourself, what we can put to use”(Bloom 1). An audience can always connect with something they can relate to. When one reads just for the sake of reading, they don’t have interest and won’t be thinking about how the literature might actually connect with their own life and interests.
I know a lot of words; I just don’t use them in my everyday conversation, thus making it more difficult to incorporate in my essay. The other parts I was dissatisfied with were my introduction and conclusion. After the revision of my paper I noticed they needed tremendous work. Therefore, I completely changed the introduction and conclusion completely to better fit my essay. Sincerely, Kimberly
Unit one also taught me to reevaluate how important certain priorities when it came to writing. I learned from the other unit one authors, Joseph M. Williams and James E. Porter, that when an essay is read by someone who is looking for grammatical error or plagiarism instead of content, they will often find the error and ignore the content. Although I do still know the importance of grammar and originality, this class and the grading style has let me put those constructs in the back seat until the editing process, instead of making them something I had to constantly worry about. I don’t believe that good writing revolves around grammar, but rather how well your words can convey a message to the intended audiences.
If I were to explain this to someone that has never taken this course I would explain that in order to learn you have to be receptive to it. In other words, you have to have an open mind in regards to new information. I would also explain that there are several different types of processes of learning. Although we touched on the Learning Patterns there are others as well. In describing myself as a learner I am first a
To me she used a pacing that kept me wanting to read and get to the ending so that I could see what would finally happen in the end. Orwell’s essay tended to get away from me at times and took more than a couple of reads to get what he might have been saying. Even now as I think about Orwell’s essay I’m left with a cloudy interpretation of what his story could have been
To me, my cultural artifact speech felt like it was just going to naturally flow out. I practiced it several times but every time I practiced the speech I found myself changing bits and pieces of it. My Livestrong bracelet means so much to me and to talk about it sounded like it was going to be easy, but I was wrong. I did not stick to my outline, I feel like because I didn’t decide on one last final draft is why my speech delivery wasn’t good. Not staying with my speech outline it made me nervous and because I didn’t want to stumble, I stumbled
I do not have any misconceptions about writing I'm just very out of practice and I'm sure with time it will become a lot easier and feel more natural. I need to focus on staying on topic, grammar and punctuation. I tend to go off topic once I get another idea something similar but not part of the idea I was going for in my paper. In order to improve this weakness is by keeping my ideas organize will help me stay on topic After reading chapter one it gave me a new motivation to learn about writing. I have always just gave myself the excuse that I am not a good writer and that’s how I am going to live.
Print the guides and refer to them as you read and before you write the last paper. :) Milton uses very “flowery” language and references to Greek and Roman literature, gods, and mythology, all of which were very familiar to the intellectual and literate during his time, so no explanations were needed. However, those references are not familiar to modern readers, so there are many, many footnotes to explain the terms or define words. Still, the epic poem is certainly worth reading if
So i can say that in this class, ideology impacted me to an extent, but in certain areas, its still undefined for me. Though my education and how i can ideologically apply it to literature is still undefined, I can easily say that i really enjoyed this class. I walked out knowing more than i did when i came in, and it also altered the way i view things such as friends, family, work, religion and so on. I could never study ideology itself and truly be interested but i am very glad that i was given an opportunity to learn that there are other ways of viewing everyday
