Gun Control On December 14, 2012 in Newtown, Connecticut, twenty year old Adam Lanza walked into the elementary school with a gun. He shot and killed 26 people, 20 of which were children, using a semi-automatic fire arm. In 2007 at Virginia Tech, a senior at the school, walked into the school and killed 32 people with a semi-automatic weapon. Both of these tragic events were caused by a single gunman with a gun in an educational facility. Both of these events sparked many debates on the topic of guns and how to stop these events from happening. Gun control in America is a very controversial topic with advocates pushing for more restrictions and anti gun control supporters pushing for fewer laws on gun control. put too much restrictions on guns and the whole NRA will be in a uproar, put too little, and guns will find their way into the wrong hands. many people can agree that at least some restrictions on guns need to be in place. In a survey taken by teenagers in Churchville Chili high school, over 50 percent of the students agreed that the government should institute stricter gun control. However, over 75 percent of students agreed that at least someone has to have guns (Gmitter 2013). This shows that even teenagers understand that there is a balance that needs to be achieved in gun control. Many people in our government have tried to make laws to create that balance. For example, a United States senator by the name of Dianne Feinstein is proposing new laws on gun control. Dianna is a proud gun control supporter that is proposing many new laws to restrict on guns even more. Just a few of the laws that Dianne is proposing is: Ban on certain more dangerous firearms, ban on importation of assault weapons and large capacity magazines, and no magazines more than ten rounds. this laws are intended to stop unnecessary use of firearms. although these laws may be able to stop the majority of criminals from getting weapons, its impossible to rid all weapons from the hands of criminals. Both sides have very interesting arguments that make them seem more attractive than the technique the other side uses to solve the issue. For example, gun control supporter believe that removing guns or limiting them even more than now, they could stop tragic events from happening. However, gun supporters, also have a persuading arguement. they say that if more of the right people had guns, then if something like this were to ever happen again then people would be prepared and ready to take action. While these issues become more and more a problem, people are beginning to speak up on each sides. From ordinary people, all the way to US senators, people are proposing new ideas that can impact the laws of gun control. Finding this perfect balance of gun control can be rather difficult, even though many people become outraged when laws are put against their side. Gun control is like many other controversial topics, exploring both sides and taking feedback as well as inputting that feedback to making new laws may be the only way a happy medium can be
