These day’s teenagers do not do much traditional dating. It uses to be mandatory that your date meet your parents before you could go out with them. Today, it’s unheard of. Parents use to know where their child was going on a date, but today parents have no clue where their teenagers are or what they are doing. What ever happened to traditional dating, is it a just a thing of the past, or can we get it back? As a young lady growing up in the 70’s, if I wanted to go on a date they would have to come and meet my parents first. It was awkward for me and my date but it was a level of respect. Today’s teenager’s dates pull up to their house and blow the horn for them to come out. Some of their dates don’t even pick them up at all. Young men also use to be responsible for seeing their dates back home but that’s not even happening anymore. Parents use to know where their teenagers were going on their dates and nowadays they don’t have a clue. Not only did they use to know where they were going but they also knew what time they would be coming home. When I was a teenager we went in groups to the Museum, Shedd Aquarium or the zoo. Today’s teenagers go to the mall, movies and hang out on corners. If we did those things without a chaperon we would get in trouble. Showing public affection back when I was coming up was unheard of. We use to sneak and kiss. There was no touching and feeling going on. If we were out on a so call date we didn’t hug or even hold hands. Today’s teenagers need to get a room. They have no shame when it comes to showing public affection. They kiss in public and touch each other in places that would have gotten our heads knocked of if we had did it. Traditional dating is just that a thing from the past, and I don’t think it will be coming back. Dating has changed just as much as technology.
