David Midyan 2 TIEAC paragraphs (Novel: Speak) In the beginning of the novel, Melinda is depressed. She is often alone and quiet, because she called the cops at the party. Even her ex-best friends don’t want to talk to talk to her because of that. For example, in “Spotlight” Melinda thinks, “Nobody really wants to hear what you have to say” (9 page). She thinks of that, because she realizes that others remember what happened at the party.
He was able to help bring my mother back to her children. In the beginning it was rocky getting to trust him, but eventually I began to trust them both. Today, I have back my nurturing, loving, and God fearing mother. In conclusion, a memory of heartache and tragedy no longer has a hold on my life. Witnessing my mother going through her struggles and overcome her addiction crack to gain her life and family back has helped me to see there is a future.
After that summer they never saw each other again until, one day years later Allie came across Noah in the newspaper and went to visit him. I think there were other reasons also, but the story points to this one in many places. First of all, Connie was not happy at home. To me Connie felt ignored by her dad and the other family members because they could give her the attention she wanted. This sort of relates to John Hughes movie "Sixteen Candles" Sam Baker struggles to get through the day on her 16th birthday because her entire family has forgotten about it and gave there attention elsewhere, to her sister wedding. Her father was most of the time at work and when he was home he didn't bother talking much to Connie.
Every time her uncle and aunts go visits her she always gets sad when they have to leave because of the goodbyes. Although most of the time his flights are delayed, she decides to stay home instead of going along to drop him and leaves, her father tells her that her uncle said he will never forget them. Furthermore, she talks about the day she turned fifteen and how they did not have enough money to celebrate like most girls with a quincenera but instead they have a gathering of 6 people to celebrate. Their budget is tight but her mom still decides to buy what her daughter deserves and nothing lower. She has a fun memory despite the struggle of being poor.
Then over the weekend there was a terrible accident and Fred and Feonia died. Marguerite could not get Francine to calm down but then after three hours of being upset Francine calmed down. They buried her parents on the Monday of November 1,
After his mother dies he states that he never visited her, “…because it took up my Sunday- not to mention the trouble of getting to the bus, buying tickets, and spending two hours traveling”(5). He wasn’t even willing to go she his mother when she was in a rest home. He tries to excuse himself by blaming it on technicalities. However, no Sunday is as important as bonding with an aging mother. He obviously was never close to her, due to his lack of wanting to visit her.
Everyone thought she called to bust the party. If she just spoke up her problems would be gone. Her parents think that she is not talking to rebel or because she thinks it is funny. So he made an appointment with the high school guidance counselor. At the meeting they began talking about how Melinda never talks.
Rosaleen treats Lily as if Lily was her own daughter, loving and taking care of her. Rosaleen is always able to tell how Lily is feeling. When it was Lily’s birthday, and Rosaleen saw that T. Ray did not get her anything, Rosaleen went and got Lily something out of kindness and love. Rosaleen understands Lily and knows when she is in pain or is sad, just like how a mother can. When on the run from her father Rosaleen is quiet and observes that Lily is upset.
When Novalee was only seven years old her mother ran away with a baseball umpire named Fred. That left her living with other people who still did not truly care. She finally thought she had found someone who loved and cared about her, his name was Willy Jack Pickens. Novalee thought that she was going to marry him some day. But on there way to California he proved her wrong by leaving her at a Wal-Mart “He was going to California and he had left her behind...left her magazine dreams of old quilts and blue china and family pictures in gold frames” (16) thats when things went wrong.
