These student athletes definitely surpass that. These sports become less extracurricular and more of a lifestyle once they reach the collegiate level. They aren’t doing it just for “fun” anymore. They are doing it to hopefully pursue a career out of it as well as to assist them in paying for their education. In the past, college sports have been more amateur which is why they didn’t get paid.
College students should get paid because of all the income they bring in for their school while playing. For example, in the article “Why College Athletes Should Be Paid” by Tyson Harnett he says “Many coaches earn at least $100,000 per year to coach one of the major basketball, baseball, football at a school. “They will receive bonuses for going to the playoffs, winning championships etc.” “You know what the athletes receive as a gift? Nothing.”(Harnett). Despite the significant help, college players have been for their schools and the revenue they bring in they get nothing in return.
It is a fact that by going to college a person will get better jobs for higher salaries. People also attend college so he/she can choose a high paying career. A person will lead a better and less stressful life if their financial status is never a problem. That would leave time for many things that could enrich a person’s life as opposed to working for ninety percent of it. Without going to college, people will make minimum wage, if he/she do make good money, it is because he/she are breaking their backs for it.
During college, kids become adults and need to pay for their own things because their parents aren’t going to pay for them forever. Athletes may take out student loans and put themselves in debt. Paying college athletes would make them less dependent on their parents and more dependent to pay off their debts and for their own things. Not all college sports athletes have insanely busy schedules, but a lot do, like division one football or basketball players. Football and basketball are very popular and commonly watched sports around America.
The giant donations received from these types of students can be put to great use, one of these uses is funding scholarships. While I agree that it is temporarily unfair that students can buy their way into a college, because it effectively takes away spots from other students who worked harder then them. But because that money can then be used to directly help fund scholarships for more students so they can attend a college where they otherwise wouldn’t of been able to, it more then balances out the injustice of the original students that were passed over. When it comes right down to it, students that can afford to pay millions of dollars for their admittance serve a greater good then the average student. Critics would argue that when colleges let in students based on financial donations as opposed to academic prowess, they are actively devaluing the value of the education received at their
For some people that’s the only way that they can afford to be in school. For both the pros and cons would be able to be easily researched and to find numbers to support them. People will be able to easily to connect to the issue especially if they are college students. It would be harder to get public support to get them taxed because very few people are going to be excited about getting
People who go to college now pay to go there and if they fail a class they just wasted a lot of money. If the government paid for everyone’s education then no one would think they would have to work hard and they would think they would have to work hard and they would end up failing once they moved in to there career. The only people that deserve to go to college for free are people that earn a scholarship or those who apply for financial aide. These programs are there for the people that have the desire to go to college. Most people that think a higher education should be free are not very wealth but there are programs like financial aide to help them if they have the desire to get a higher education.
Outward Bound gives scholarships out to the less fortunate public students that are financially unable to afford their adventurous programs. Due to the financial difference with the corporate clientele, they will not need to provide scholarships to the target audience of the PDP classes. Increasing the PDP program will increase the age range of students attending the school and the amount of people attending school. The majority of people that enroll in PDP courses
In the college sports its win or go home, and the winners get to celebrate their hard work. Opponents to paying college athletes proclaim that a scholarship to a higher learning institution should be sufficient compensation, however I believe that college athletes should receive a small amount of money for their hard work and time put into their institution. Hard work should pay off. The university should literally pay off their student athletes because it isn’t easy balancing classes and 2 or 3 a day practices. College athletes in all divisions put in hard work and dedication to both the education side and to the athletics side of their institution.
