Graduate Study Challenges and Strategies for Personal Success

Living in a fast changing world, multicultural nations, and with a diverse family background, we are molded to have different goals, priorities and outlook in life. Everybody is unique, and no two individuals are the same but the bottom line is everybody wants to be successful. Aside from getting married and having a child; going back to school to earn my graduate degree is one of the major decisions I made in my life. I know it is very challenging, but I am positive that it will be rewarding and life changing (Kramer, 2007).

Personal and Professional Goals

There are two main reasons why I wanted to pursue my graduate study. First is for my professional growth to expand my nursing knowledge. I believe that nursing is a continuous learning process and what I learn yesterday is different from today. Second is more of my personal reason, and that is for my self-satisfaction. I want to feel good about myself by boosting my self-esteem and reaching my maximum potential. With these reasons in my mind, I came up with the ultimate goal in life - and that is to finish my Master’s Degree as my short term goal, and then working as a successful nurse practitioner in a women’s health clinic as my long term goal.

Challenges in meeting goals

Everything in this world does not turn out smooth sailing, or neither life does happen in the way we expected it. There are always new and recurring obstacles and challenges we meet along the way. Number one challenge for me is my time management. Being a student, a mother, a wife, and a full-time employee has been my role over the past few years.
