Provision nine states that a nurse is responsible for articulating nursing values and maintaining integrity of the profession (Martha D.M. Fowler, 2010). This can be accomplished by becoming a mentor for nurses who have just graduated. I could sign up to be a preceptor and really share with the new nurse the values of nursing, as well as demonstrate the integrity and core values of the profession. I could easily go through each of the nine provisions to the ANA Code of Ethics and demonstrate how I can use each one in my daily life as a registered nurse.
Running head: NURSING PHILOSPHY Nursing Philosophy Grand Canyon University: NRS 430V 19 August 2011 Nursing Philosophy Every person may have their individual perspective about nursing. Professional nurses continue to develop their own philosophies with experiences they each have with their patients. It is very difficult to face the demands of caring for people from day to day without the solid foundation of a personal philosophy. As each nurse grows within their career their philosophy will continue to grow and shape as they learn new experiences. The nursing education of each nurse receives helps them to establish their philosophy.
In doing so, nurses must be care-givers and educators - providing the necessary information, skills and knowledge, to their patients to allow for self-nurturance, well-being, and growth. I started my journey in the field of nursing two years ago. My personal values, combined with the strong desire to help others influenced me to enroll in the Licensed Practical Nurse program. This career path has provided such great opportunities to help others, and has allowed for my own personal growth. I am continuously looking for new and great ideas to better the field of nursing and the ultimate goal of helping those in need.
I am committed to excelling personally and professionally in all that I do and to serve as a role model by leading a healthy lifestyle. I believe that becoming a registered nurse will only be the beginning of my contribution to those I will help, and the medical field in general. After I get my BSN I plan to continue my education and get either my MD as an Orthopedic Surgeon or a masters as a Certified Nurse Practitioner. I feel as though I possess several characteristics that will positively influence my capability of successfully pursuing my goals as a healthcare provider. I have several strengths that will help my ability to connect with patients on a more personal level and not just business.

Different skills are trained in the institutions of higher learning and hence going back to universities to get a master’s degree is a major step in achieving the objectives set by the report. An additional way of achieving the objectives set by the report is to make sure that I keep up-to-date with current matters that affect the nursing practice directly. This means that the current nurses must look into acquiring professional growth now irrespective of their age. (Harris & Roussel, 2010). Joel (2013) in his work notes that the Institute of medicine report necessitates that nurses must have abilities in leadership.
Through experience, we develop our skills and knowledge. For most nurses, being able to provide excellent care to our patients is a source of great personal and professional satisfaction. Although team leaders often find opportunities to apply their clinical expertise to direct patient care, their primary responsibility is to facilitate the patient care delivered by members of their team. Competent team leaders are able to look at the big picture. Nurses who assume a leadership role must be able to understand and prioritize the work of the unit as a whole.
