Gay Parenting Angela Love Sociology 301 Dameon Nguyen June 25, 2013 In the " Gay Parenting " video a lot of issues were discussed. It talked about if same sex couples be allowed to adopt children. There was a gay couple Steve Lofton and Roger Croteau that had been together for many years, and they were foster parents to five children that have been born with some sort of drug addiction, three were foster kids. These kids had all sort of medical needs and needed a stable environment. Well this gay couple did just that. We heard from political people that really feel that children should be in a traditional family. That family should consist with a man and woman. These people believe a child should stay in foster care, rather than go to a family with homosexual parents. There was a debate that gay parents will raise gay kids. Heterosexuals have gay kids, so homosexuals have just as much chance as heterosexuals of having a gay child. When asked if Rosie would rather her children to be gay or straight, she answered straight. Rosie didn't want her kids to be gay in America because all the madness that comes with that title, and she believed it would just be easier if they were straight. In the end she just wants her children to live a happy life. Rosie said being gay does not make someone a bad parent. She stated that restricting the qualified adoptive parents isn't the solution and is not beneficial. She was thrown back to find out there were half a million kids in foster care in America. As an adoptive parent it stunned her that these children will more than likely age out of the system, and go either to welfare or jail. We all put our pants on one leg at a time, so why give a minority group such a hard time because they are different from the majority. In the video the topic came up that children raised in a homosexual family would have a hard time being social. I believe that they will have a much better chance with a social life for two reason. First reason they have already probably been through criticism for being different and their family helped them get through that ordeal. Second, homosexual people are some of the socialist individuals I know. I mean that in a good way. Children raised by a homosexual couple are already experiencing what it feels like to be different and how to overcome negativity at an entirely different kind of level. Homosexual couples should be allowed to adopt as long as they meet the requirements when it comes to caring the children. If I was taking from my parents, shuffled from place to place, can't make friends because I'm never in one place too long, feeling lonely, and just plain tired; being adopted by homosexual couple wouldn't sound too
