He discredits the argument that, ”marriage is fundamentally a procreative unit” (Stoddard 738). The government tries to rectify not allowing same sex marriage to be legal because marriage is supposed to be a procreative unit. People should be entitled to love and marry whomever it is that they choose. The government tries to justify their standing on gay marriage by acknowledging the fact that same sex couples would not be able to birth a child together. If this is in fact a valuable reason to prevent someone from marrying, then why doesn’t the government create a law banning all women and men who cannot or will not have children from being able to legally marry.
(2) Marriage creates families and promotes social stability. But there is a weakness in his argument such as: (1) Decision to marry belongs to the individual not the government and if tradition were the only measure, most states would still limit matrimony to partners of the same race (para. 6). Stoddard is making an argument, offering a thesis: Reasons gay marriage should be legalized. He begins his successful argument using the appeal to emotion
He talks a bit about how same sex marriage will affect children, which I completely respect. He discusses marriage being associated with civil right incorrectly for things like tax breaks, property ownership, etc. The majority of his article is based upon what he believes is the “definition” of marriage. He talks about marriage including or being based upon a number of things such as; romance, passion, the female body, spiritualism, etc. All things he obviously doesn’t think the gay community is capable of.
Jessica Rasdall Gay Marriage SHOULD be a legal The Declaration of Independence states that are man are created equal and are given certain unalienable rights. These rights include Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. If this is so, why can’t people marry whoever they want to marry? Even though I’m not gay, I feel it is wrong to not allow gays to marry and if I was in congress I would pass a bill that made gay marriage legal in all states. If a person is deeply in love with a person of the same sex they shouldn’t have to worry about if the government will let them get married or not and I have many reason as to how the government is violating peoples right’s.
She takes on the most undefended issue persisting in today’s society, the same-sex marriages. She focused on the problems faced by the gay couples. The gay couples can’t support each other when hospitalized, can’t fill taxes jointly, and face social problems bring up children. The definition of marriage is defined as social union of two people, then why do we don’t let it happen. Gay couples should be able to have every right that heterosexual couples has in the community.
In doing so, other states may have to follow along due to the Constitution’s Full Faith and Credit Claus. The meaning and definition of marriage will be changed if legal union of gay and lesbian couples are acknowledged. Bennett claims that marriage is recognized universally as an act meant to unite a man and a woman. Marriage is society’s most important institution; if same sex couples are able to marry, this important institution will be destroyed. Bennett’s article is effective
Closeness-Communication Bias Anthony Madrid COM 200: Interpersonal Communication Prof. Selena Smith October 14, 2014 Closeness-Communication Bias Gay rights have been a controversial issue in the United States for several decades now. One of the most controversial topics in the realm of gay rights is same-sex marriage. In the article by Ryan Anderson (2013), “In defense of traditional marriage,” he argues that same-sex marriage is fundamentally flawed and should not be forcefully recognized by government and private parties. However, he goes on to state that, “All Americans stand equally before the law and have their civil rights equally protected—rights to free speech, religious liberty, free association and every other traditional
It is not easy to change things which are natural. Even if, homosexuality was a choice, it is against the constitution to discriminate people who have voluntarily chosen to enter into civil unions because that will be violating the constitution. The society is liberal and, everybody should be allowed the freedom of association and that of pursuing happiness as long as they do not interfere with the freedoms of other citizens. Recognizing civil unions by the federal government is a way of respecting the rights and freedoms of homosexuals. It is also a way of demonstrating the society’s willingness to tolerate other people who are different from them.
Most people wonder why they desire to get married. The reason is the same as anyone who wants to get married to the one whom he or she loves. Homosexuals just want a social right to get married. Two individuals of same sex love each other, why they cannot celebrate this love through the marriage. I think that everyone should have the right to get married no matter if he is homosexual or not.
With DNA analysis, the genetic factors could determine eye colour and hair colour. This reading, in a sense, is a way for society to cure homosexuality because, if the prof was there that your child would be gay, would you really choose to keep him/her? No. you would most likely abort it. This is not even the beginning of a cure of homosexuality, as all persons are made and accepted equally in the image of god, and aborting a child who shows proof of being gay, is not allowing to be equally accepted.
