Firm overview and Introduction to the Case The main player is Joel St. Marseille who is the founder and owner of Skadurz Pro. Skadurz Pro is a a custom skateboard, snowboard and clothing store. Skardurz currently faces the following issues; • Increase in local competition is reducing the advantage that Skadurz Pro had over it's online competition. • Retirement of key employee leaves a void not easily replaced because management is limited to family members. • The prices are not as low as competitors because its a small, local business with less volume. • No outside management experience is utilized, and St. Marseille's only management knowledge comes from operating a t-shirt business out of their home. • Employees other than family only work for short periods that leads to a high turnover, increasing training costs. • Parking facilities not conducive to customer needs at New Sudbury location. • Current location of South End business up for sale. • There is a limited amount of employees. This may hinder customer service. Internal perspectives The primary issue that Skadurz Pro faces is an increase in local competition that is reducing the advantage that Skadurz Pro has over it's online competition. A few issues that they are facing is trying to compete with a larger chain that is opening across from the current New Sundbury store and online retailers. Skadurz Pro is not able to sell the same volume as either of their competitors so they can not offer the same discounts. The core products that are being sold are skateboard and snowboard equipment that unfortunately has a small profit margin. While the clothing items do have a higher profit margin sales are limited
