The Significance of Sleep All around the world, there are humans who do not choose to take advantage of the wonderful benefits of sleeping. Instead, these humans tend to put off sleep in order to perform another action that seems more important. As a matter of fact, it can be argued that sleep is one of the greatest benefits to the human body and should not be ignored by anyone. Sleep improves concentration, boosts the immune system, and allows the body for recuperation. With such powerful consequences, everybody should make a strong effort to develop proper sleeping habits to facilitate proper body function. There are many reasons for the significance of sleeping and why people do not choose to sleep. One reason why sleeping is so important is because it improves concentration and awareness. These things are necessary for getting through the day. If one is sleeping too little every day, the body will collect all the sleeping time owed to the brain and will build up quickly causing tiredness and low energy. This leads to fatigue and a reduced ability to focus and concentrate on the tasks at hand. It is said that humans should get approximately eight hours of sleep per night. For example, imagine getting roughly four hours of sleep each night of the week instead of the recommended eight because going to bed is not as enjoyable as staying up with your friends. By the end of the week, a total of twenty-eight hours of sleep has been lost! The ability to perform the following week will be extremely tough because the brain has collected these unwanted hours and will block most of a person’s awareness. How are we supposed to attend class or work if we have lost twenty-eight hours of sleep in one week? With the proper amount of sleep, we will be able to focus much more easily and will be in much better moods. The immune system in one’s body needs to be taken good
