The Dream Act The Dream Act is a common sense legislation drafted by both Republicans and Democrats that would give students who grew up in the United States a chance to contribute to our country’s well-being by serving in the U.S. armed forces or pursuing a higher education. This is good for our economy, our security, and our nation. It’s limited, targeted legislation that will allow only the best and brightest young minors to earn their legal status after a rigoro us and lengthy process. The requirements include entering the country when they were under 16 years old, proving they have continuously lived in the U.S. for at least 5 years. And graduated from a U.S. high school or have obtained a GED: demonstrating their good moral character: proving they have not committed any crimes that would make them inadmissible to the country. Only then they could obtain a conditional status for a limited period of time.…show more content…
This info graphic explains how the act provides such a boost to the nation, by granting legal immigration status to 2.1 million young minors and incentivizing a higher education. The $148 billion in the higher earnings that result from DREAMERS being able to work legally and being able to achieve greater education leads to increase spending on goods and service such as houses, cars, and computers. This spending ripples, through the economy, supporting another $182 billion in induced economic impact, the creation of 1.4 million new jobs, and more than $10 billion in increased revenue.
