Otis Horace, Jr. Case Study March 5, 2014 AWS CASE STUDY Dr. Vidal Adadevoh CIS500008VA016-1142-001 (Info Syst Decision-Making) In 1999 a company by the name of Salesforce.com became one of the firsts companies to make major moves in the cloud realm (The History …para 5). They pioneered the concepts of delivering enterprise levels applications to users through the internet. In 2002, Amazon began its revolution with the introduction of its web based retail services (para 5). During this time, Amazon realized that they could use their excess computer infrastructure which would modernize their data centers and utilize the excess capacity for greater efficiency. Shortly after, Amazon began to expand its services. Upon the realization of advantages there are from computer sharing, Amazon started offering computer access to their external clients. In 2004, Amazon Inc. built the Amazon elastic Cloud (EC2)(para 5). EC2 is known as the center to the whole AWS infrastructure. EC2 allows the consumers to have complete control over their instances. Many of the clouding competitors have a set price for an amount of storage required. With EC2, the consumers are only billed for the amount of storage in which they have used. EC2 allows the consumer to stop an instance while gathering data and then restart that same instance using an Application Programmed Interface (or API). Instances can also be remotely started from the API’s as well. The EC2 allows flexible hosting Services. EC2 allows you to choose your own configuration for memory, CPU’s, Storage and other assets to optimize your operating systems. EC2 gives pathways to other beneficial services such as: 1) Amazon Simple Storage (A3) 2) Amazon Cloud Front 3) Amazon Cloud watch 4) Amazon Simple (DB) 5) Amazon Relational Database Services 6) Amazon Simple Work Flow 7) Amazon Dynamo
