In the story of The Ramayana of Valmiki translated by Swani Venkatesananda princess Sita is described as a loving, loyal and devoted wife. Sita left her family and everything she knew to live in the forest with her husband, Rama. She was abducted by a demon name Ravana, threaten to be killed and was put on public trail to prove her love to Rama. Throughout all she endured Sita remained loyal and devoted to her husband Rama. Sita’s characteristics makes her a great example for women in India.
Each role adds a different element and is essential to the telling of the story. Mothers portrayed in this poem are seen as givers of “pity and sorrow” rather than true supporters of their sons and husbands when in war. “She is too wise, /too clear-eyed, sees alternatives too well, /Penelope, Ikarious daughter--/that young bride whom we left behind” (Homer 199 519-22). In this scene Odysseus sees the soul of Agamemnon in Hedes the underworld; Agamemnon was murdered by his own wife Clytemnestra. He tries to warn Odysseus, he says women are no longer faithful.
Due to no princesses wanting to marry him he kidnapped many of the most beautiful princesses on the land. He would put them through a series of test to see if they were worthy to marry him. If she was to fail he would kill her and put her body in the forbidden room. Many princesses were killed during this time. Toward the end of the princes’ years, one princess finally passed the test.
The actions of the nurse and the Friar are responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. From the very begging of Romeo and Juliet’s newfound love, the nurse is supportive and helpful with Juliet. The nurse was an influential adult to Juliet and knew that the Capulets planned for Paris and Juliet to be married. She should have known better and discouraged Juliet from seeing Romeo. Instead, the nurse acted as a messenger between Romeo and Juliet for information about the wedding (Act II, scene iv).
In the play, Euripides has described Medea as a woman who “wild with love”. Everyone can see easily that with Medea, the love with Jason is the most important to her as she could kill her own brother, betrayed her father and her country to help Jason get the Golden Fleece. “I willingly deceived my father; left my home; …” “You had already murdered your brother at his own hearth…” Because of Jason, Medea - from a princess – had to drift to another place which is not belonging to her. Her family, her friends will never forgive for that, Medea doesn’t even have the way to turn back to her home anymore. “My friends at home now hate me…” Medea even earned more enemies when helping Jason.
Penelope , in Greek mythology, wife of Odysseus and the mother of Telemachus. In Homer's Odyssey she is pictured as a chaste and faithful wife. When Odysseus was away, she was surrounded by suitors who tried to persuade her that he would never return. She agreed to choose another husband when she finished weaving her father-in-law's shroud, but this was never done, for she unraveled by night what she wove by day. At last her strategem was discovered, and the suitors were enraged.
God cursed the man, the woman and the serpent and sent the man and the woman out of the Garden of Eden. In the creation myth “Out of the Blue”, a maiden named Sky Woman received a message from her deceased father instructing her to go and marry a stranger. She did as she was told and traveled to the place her father had told her to go. Even though she was a strong woman, she was also very strange and was conned into jumping down a hole of her world and consequently creates the human
When that fails, she ultimately offers herself to the representatives of her village and deferentially asks for help. The officials offer her a sharp pointed sword, a serpent hound, and the freedom to use them however. Ban Zhou, a famous female Confucian stated: Let a woman humbly yield to others; let her show respect to others; let her put herself last and others first.” Chi Li does, in fact, put herself last. She considers herself dispensable, admitting to her parents that her death will simply mean more food for the rest of the family. Instead of letting an unprepared girl be sacrificed for the tradition, she offers her own flesh and blood.
Euripides questions the Greek ideal woman and her characteristics. Euripides wrote against the norm of Ancient Greek writing when writing this play. The theme of justice verses revenge was very prominent in Medea. Medea goes to great lengths to seek revenge on her ex-husband Jason after he left her and her kids to poverty in a foreign country so that he could then get married to the King’s daughter in Corinth. Not only did Jason do that, but his soon to be father-in-law King Creon demands that Medea and her children leave at once or after she persuades him after a day.
This affair involved Cardinal de Rohan, a French minister, who was accused and framed with buying a fraudulent necklace for Marie and also having secret rendezvous’ with her. After the revolution in 1789, a mob demanded the royal family move to the Tuileries Palace in Paris where they were held as prisoners. While being held in captivity, Marie sought after her brother and Leopold II, but on June 20, 1791, Marie, Louie and their son tried to flee from Paris, but they were stopped in Varennes and brought back to Paris as prisoners. Louis was later convicted of treason and sentenced to execution by the guillotine. Marie and her son were moved in the Conciergerie, where she suffered from internal bleeding and a dramatic loss of weight.
