Radio Producer A regular radio program can only be maintained through the collective effort of a diverse team of trained workers. The radio producer is at the heart of the program. They are involved in the entire process, from creating ideas to managing the audience response after the show. Producers are also known as “production directors”, “creative producers”, “imaging specialists”, or even “imaging producers” because of their involvement in producing and creating audio content for the radio station. Usually they create jingles and audio clips to entertain the listener. They manage and work with presenters, DJs and engineers to create a fluid and entertaining program. They may also be in charge of the business and commercial management of the operation. To become a radio producer one should have excellent communication skills and be able to work well with as a part of a team. They should be able to handle pressure. Radio producers have to be willing to embrace new technology and learn new technical skills to stay up to speed with the rest of the competition. Most importantly, a producer has to have a passion for radio. They have to love the music their station is playing and have an interest in creating an impact through their station. Although a degree may not be essential, the majority of radio producers are graduates. Those considering higher education can take courses relevant the the radio industry to further their knowledge of how a radio program works. Classes like Radio Operations, Introduction to Electronic Media, Digital Radio Studio Systems, and Radio Programming and Marketing may help boost ones chance of becoming a radio producer.
