The Arian Brotherhood believes whites should be above all of races and or ethnicities. The Arian Brotherhood is still posing threats against other various races and is a great example of racial discrimination still existing in America Today. Another form of discrimination provided by the Caucasian race is racial profiling, racial profiling is a term used to describe when police or other various law enforcement officials single out a person or group of people as “potential suspects” based on their race or ethnicity. Racial profiling continues to be a prevalent form of discrimination in the United States today. Said by Aclu, “Since September 11, 2001, new forms of racial profiling have affected a growing number of people of color in the U.S., including members of Muslim, Arab, and South Asian communities.” For example, if an African American man standing on a corner waiting for a bus he is more likely stopped and questioned why he is standing there and where he is going.
Even if after the initial judgment takes place and their base opinion is changed, because this person is ‘different from the norm’ the initial judgment did occur, and that person did assume personality qualities to that person for know reason other than race, and personal beliefs that people have about that specific ‘kind of person.’ I have met people of all different races who judge others by their skin color or by their culture unintentionally. Racism is everywhere and it is a hidden evil that people choose to ignore for the time being. Most people in today’s society are at least slightly racist, probably on accident. Which is awful, because the concept of race is something that the human mind created, and not something that has any truth to it, because there is only one race, the human
Sadly, some individuals believe that another person is less human than them. Some of the most common causes of racism are skin, color, language, customs or place of birth. Racial prejudice deals with terrible and hostile pre-judgments, opinions, and actions towards a race. Moreover, racism has some devastating effects. It can destroy a person’s self esteem, community cohesion and even creates divisions in society.
Charles Lawrence uses the case, Brown v. the Board of Education, as an example. Although he argues similar to Brown’s case, the prejudice and racial ways in many schools caused unfair conditions to the victim’s of racial comments. He also argues that racist speech can hinder many people so much that it can make them very uncomfortable in their educational environment. Lawrence goes on to talk about racist speech in the form of face-to-face insults which falls right under fighting words, excepted by the First Amendment Protection. He explains that whenever someone decides that racial comments has to be accepted, we are asking people to accept the hurt of racial comments for everyone else.
Racism is a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and those racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. Prejudice is an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics. Xenophobia is the fear and hatred of strangers or foreigners or of anything that is strange or foreign. And ethnocentrism is characterized by or based on the attitude that one’s own group is superior. Although each word has their own specific meaning, all four are interconnected creating the same product that is nothing but hate and violence towards mankind.
Hate Crimes Hate crime, are directed against different types of people that poses a challenge toward the public enemy, organizations, groups. Such hate crimes are anything from arson, harassment, personal assaults to killings. American society views hate crimes as being bias such as the killings of African Americans. The first recorded hate crime came back in 1922 and still goes on as of today. The hate crime can be brutal such as lynchings.
Individuals have also made good arguments about the negative outcome that racial profiling might bring to our society. Obviously it has led the dominant race to have superiority to the minorities – racial discrimination. James Zogby, the president of the Arab-American Institute have made a point that he have seen a lot of dark skinned people being searched and treated with humiliation, which is really wrong – Racial Relations. David Harris, a writer and Professor at Toledo College, have already written a couple of books about racial profiling. He states that law enforcers think that they would be more accurate in targeting a suspicious group, but in reality, what happens is the total opposite wherein officials have inaccurate results in targeting the suspect—Race Relations.
And they are humble because even though any person would gladly give them money to support their children, they refuse to take anything that they cannot repay. They have even begun teaching their children of this at a very early age to make sure that the whole family is in that mindset. This next piece of evidence may, on the surface, seem racially based but underneath the surface it can be related to social class as well. In the story “The Meanings of a Word” the author had offensive language used toward her. And the boy who used it most likely did so because he thought in his mind that he was somehow better than she was.
Racism and prejudice are interchangeable terms; the former is defined as one’s feeling of cultural and racial advantage over other cultures and races. In other words, one becomes a racist if he or she displays actions or live by ideologies out of the feeling of superiority. Whilst most people claim to be not racist, everyone is guilty of having been committed some forms of prejudice in one way or another. Helms has classified five statuses of racial identity construction model: conformity, dissonance, immersion-emersion, internalization, and integrative awareness (62). Conformity takes place when one sees his or her own race as inferior and learns to identify with the dominant and superior race, such as the White Americans.
Racism in a predominantly white city Racism, which is basically the poor treatment of other people because of their race, is a vice that has always existed in society since time immemorial. Considering what Law states, racism exists in various forms and levels. It may exist based on nationality, skin color, religious background and even as a result of personal beliefs. On the hand, contemporary racism exists with the belief that whites are superior to other races and color, and it is therefore becoming increasingly difficult to identify since it depends on the perception of the one being victimized and the given situation or interaction that might have led to it. It is important to note that although countries like Canada takes pride in knowing
