Unit 4 ‘Understanding discipline in the uniformed public services’ P1 "Explain the need for discipline in the uniformed public services" Discipline in the Public services is very important because without it they wouldn’t be able to save lives and there would be no structure in the services. Whatever situations public services are dealing with, they have to be disciplined which means that they obey the rules and regulations in order to provide a good service and deal with situation in an appropriate way. One of the things that are needed to have a disciplined service is obeying rules and regulations. If the public services did not obey and follow rules they wouldn’t be able to save lives or provide a good service for people, therefore the public would not take the public service seriously and the public services wouldn’t have a good reputation. By obeying and following rules the services are able to deal with all kinds of situations that they are facing and achieve their goals. If the service was lacking discipline then everyone would be doing what they please and there wouldn’t be a good team work either. There would be no team cohesion because of everyone being undisciplined so therefore nothing would get accomplished and the country would suffer. Orders must be followed in order to have a good discipline in the services. The consequences of someone not following orders could be serious or even life threatening. For example an army officer may have to give soldiers an order which could put them in a very dangerous situation, they will have to obey that order and that will make them disciplined soldiers. All the public services in the UK have a reputation of a high standard organisation and order and it’s down to their discipline, without it this wouldn’t be the case.
