He sticks to the Bible and does not care what others think about him or his beliefs. Billy Graham is a fabulous role model and I have a desire to have a faith as strong as his. He has proved throughout the years that he stays true to his faith and he has taught thousands of people the word of God. He believes the Bible to be 100% accurate. We both believe the Bible comes from God and that he created the universe and everything in it.
Christians believe that there is only one God. They never really call “God” by any name other then God but Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that Jehovah is the actual name of God. They believe that the word God is a title much like lord, president, general, king or creator. The name Jehovah is more of a personal name given to the almighty God and Creator of the universe. They refer to the scripture Psalm 83:18, according to the King James Version of the Bible: "That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth."
In his speech before the National Convention, he claims the Church calendar to debase nations and persuades people that a new calendar is a must for every Frenchman. However, Romme is biased towards the production of a new calendar, clearly shown, because he is head of the calendar reform committee (Document 2). The “Institution Concerning the Era of the Republic and the Division of the Year” also supports the new calendar. This document not only looks at the calendar from an intellectual level, but also considers the economy. It claims a new calendar will soon be needed for commerce and the trades, and arts and history.
As he said that in fact evil comes from angels and human beings who chose deliberately to deny and disobey what God had taught them, by turning away from him and what he had wished for mankind. Augustine believed that every human being was an offshoot of Adam and hence that every single person in the world is guilty of evil, this is as it was Adam who committed ultimate sin in the Garden of Eden. Augustine believed very strongly that evil should be punished. Therefore it was Augustine’s theodicy that said that natural evil in the world is a fitting punishment for moral wickedness. He strongly believed that evil is solely a result of human rebellion.
Henry VIII vs. John Calvin in the Protestant Reformation In the sixteenth century, stood the reformation of the Catholic Church in Western Europe. While the main focus was an internal renovation of the church, the outcome was much different than expected; the reformation led to a revolt against and an abandonment of principal Christian belief. The difference in the view and act of oneself was different from individual to individual during the reformation. While Calvin left for Geneva in 1536 from France because of the fear of persecution for the publically spread beliefs of his about the Church to the people, Henry VIII had manipulated the church for a way to receive a new wife in hopes for his first son. Different motivation stands for each of these people in what they did for the reformation.
The series of wars between the European Christians and the Muslims, which was called the crusades, made Europe more aware about art, math, technology, etc…. The period that followed the crusades was called the renaissance, which was a period o cultural and technological innovation. This was a huge difference from the previous which was called the dark ages because there was almost no cultural or technological innovation. Another change that occurred during this time was the protestant reformation. Martin Luther started this reformation by posting his 95 thesis to the door of the church.
His sermon was typical of the era and can be assumed to be quite effective. “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” paints a vivid picture of Hell and informs the audience that they are kept out of hell only by the “mere pleasure of God (p 426).” Puritans had a different view of Christianity and God then most people today. They believed we are all born sinners (depravity). Modern day Christians believe this to be partially true because of the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden where Eve eats a fruit from the Forbidden Tree and then persuades Adam to eat too. This was the first sin and is now a part of everyone thus creating the initial need for people to accept Jesus Christ and to repent for their sins.
He believed that the Catholic church was corrupt for selling indulgences as penance for sins in that the sale was a way for the Church to exploit the unfortunate and poor (Reformation 5). The final push for the need to change was the English reformation. During King Henry VIII’s rule in the sixteenth century, the Church of England was formed. He established the church because the Pope of the Catholic Church would not grant him a divorce from his wife, Catherine of Aragon. The Anglican church had many similarities to the Catholic church: similar rituals and a bible titled the Book of Common Prayere (Reformation 9).
If he didn’t change the religion for the best interest of England, we would have a higher crime rate and England would be destroyed. The Catholic Church went from being a place where you can find God, to a place where people are executed and go against the laws of God and humanity. Henry VIII said “The people look to you for light and you bring them darkness. Amend these crimes and set forth Gods word truly or else I, whom God has appointed his high minister, will see these divisions extinct and the enormities corrected”. The Catholic Church decided to start controlling everyone in England.
The Renaissance monarchs were growing impatient of the Church, and society was growing to become more humanistic and secular, as well as individualism. Various other religions were established as well, with Luther’s teachings leaving their mark well past Luther’s own existence. The Reformation in Western & Central Europe officially began in 1517 with Martin Luther (1483-1546) and his 95 Theses. This was a debate over the Christian religion. Luther’s arguments referred to a direct relationship with God and using the local vernacular to speak to the people.
