Positive Environments for Children

The setting that I am going to describe to you is a school setting. I will tell you how to create a positive environment when the children are in the school setting and how parents can carry on this positive environment out of school and encourage children in all areas of their development. The environment I will be concentrating on and informing you about is a state infant school for children aged 5 years to 6 years and 11 months. It is important to create a positive and reassuring environment for children. This makes the children feel safe, happy and secure during their time at school. Teachers play a critical role in creating a positive environment for children as children look up to teachers as a role model and expect them to create and environment which they can feel relaxed and happy in. The physical appearance of an environment is also important for creating a positive environment. If the room creates a happy atmosphere the children will be more likely to work and enjoy their time at school. A way to make the classroom seem a happier atmosphere is to decorate it as if it was a room at home; you can do this by using bright coloured paint on the walls such as red, green, yellow and blue. If the classroom was dull and unattractive the children wouldn’t be able to concentrate as much and wouldn’t enjoy their time at school. Put up posters which will appeal to the children but also has an educational purpose to it. Making sure that displays are regularly changed and also contrast with the topic they are study help the child to relate to what they are studying as well as adding a friendly atmosphere. Lighting adds warmth and added security to the classroom. By doing this it will help you to create a more positive and re-assuring environment for children.
