UP AND DOWN NEWTOWN During World War I, as part of the war effort, Gregory's had barrels out in front for the collection of peach pits. They were said to be used in the manufacture of gas masks. Odd Fellows Hall was a busy social center. Many of us attended its afternoon tea dances for young people reluctantly, urged on by eager parents. KENNELL I. SCHENCK The East Hampton Public School, today the home of London Jewelers, stood on Newtown Lane 85 years ago, when I was born in a house next door.
Harvey Firestone was born in Ohio on December 20th, 1838. Even though his parents were just farmers, they encouraged him to get a high school diploma and even go off to college. He completed college courses in Cleveland specializing in business. He then went off to work as a bookkeeper. One of his first jobs was working at the Columbiana Buggy Company with his uncle.
I never knew exactly why I wanted to become a RN, besides the fact I wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps. Until my grandpa started to go downhill. Before I started going to kindergarten, my dad would always drop me off at my Grandpa’s house while he went to work up at the University of Utah’s Hospital. Our mornings together consisted of going to the Coffee Shop where everyone knew who we were. We would always sit at the bar each morning while Carolyn, our waitress, would bring my Grandpa his coffee and me my chocolate milk.
Reader Response for 'The Fourth of July by Aundre Lorde' By April Kobel My initial thought when I began to read The Fourth of July by Aundre Lorde went to the memory of my first road trip to Washington D.C. with my family which consists of myself, my brother and my father. It was aound my year of fifth grade. My brother and I rode while my father drove from where we lived in Chicago with my Grandmother to a campground near Washinton D.C. where we would stay during our visit there. I enjoyed the road trip because my father had planned a few stops along the way of activities and places we can enjoy. It was after I read Aundre's story that I sat and thought again, as I do often, how fortunate we are in this day and age that the discrimination
This is also the view of John Podesta in an article written by Forbes. John Podesta’s version of the American Dream is, “one part opportunity, one part family, one part hard work and one part dumb luck.” This is true in the case of my sister-in-law, Dianne Charles and her husband Bob Jr. His parents Bob Sr and Judy Charles started their McDonald’s franchises this way. It all began because Judy’s family lived next door to Ray Kroc in Illinois. At that time, they were just married and they were beginning to live the average American working class life. One day their parent’s neighbor, Ray Kroc approached them about opening and starting a McDonald’s franchise in Boulder, Colorado.
Tracie Campanella Sandra Miller English 090-05A Paper 1 10/28/2013 What I Bring to PPCC For many years I have worked and supported my family in the food service industry. While reading Mike Rose’s essay’ “The Waitress in Motion”, My mind drifts to the different jobs I have had; and to when I was a young child learning to read, and the values of how important it is to do well in school to get a good job. My jobs have included Wendy’s cashier, Mcdonalds grill master, Kingsoopers deli clerk/chef, and Albertsons deli clerk. All these jobs are different, yet very much the same. Like being in school my work experience has taught me the value of customer service, and how to prioritize my duties.

I grew up in a family some would say resembles the stereotypical family. My mom and dad got married young, had two girls, my mom stayed home most of the time to take care of the kids, my dad worked throughout the week, we always had dinner together, and on weekends we would all spend the day together. But we were definitely far from the “model family.” My mom eventually got a job to help pay the bills, my dad would lose his job and be out of work for months before
They offer classes based on the season we are in for example they had a canning class over the summer, and next month there is a soup class. The classes are not only fun, but they also offer an incentive to attend. If you attend a class you are offered an espresso or a latte, and you also get ten percent of any purchase made that day in their store. The main focus of my paper will be to show the learning techniques used in my knife skills class. I will also share what I learned that will help when cooking in the kitchen.
I kept my secret only revealing it to my husband after we had been together for three years. One day when I was about thirty-three, I drove past my former foster home and I say my foster father standing on the porch with a very young girl. They were facing one another and the girl was looking up at him. The sight made my stomach lurch. I wanted to dash to the girl and grab her up, and running far away from him.
