173 Reflective Journal. Week 1: Aims of the criminal Justice system This week was essentially an introductory topic and provided me with a basic understanding of the aims and operations of the criminal justice system. I learned that there is a number of different steps within the criminal justice system and the involvement of all the parties involved such as police, judge and jury and the defence. According to John Champion the main purpose of the criminal justice system is to process and prosecute individuals who commit crimes against society and to deal out suitable punishments for these individuals. This is a pivotal part in terms of maintain the functioning of society and to ensure that people don’t go around breaking laws wherever and whenever they want.
Careers in Criminal Justice CRJ 201 Michelle McMichael Professor Levit September 6, 2012 Careers in Criminal Justice Before beginning this class I had no idea that the career field for criminal justice was so large. I have not chosen a specific career that I would like to enter when I finish my degree so I am happy to do this paper and learn more about what my choices will be. All the elements of criminal justice are important and they all work together to attempt to make our communities a safer place. The three fields of criminal justice careers that I will be discussing are parole officer, police officer and crime scene investigator. Parole and probation officers have a difficult job because at times it is conflicting.
Gathering evidence is one of the main tasks of the police and is crucial. Evidence must be gathered lawfully otherwise the prosecution is at risk of it not being allowed to be relied upon in any subsequent hearing or trial as a judge may rule that the evidence is inadmissible. For example, police cannot, without a warrant, search premises or listen in to telephone conversations. A criminal charge has to be proven by the prosecution and the proof is always based on evidence available for the court to view. Evidence can be in the form of physical, electronic or witness statements and is a very effective part of achieving justice during a crime.
There is a required NYS Rape Crisis Certification, but other than that, Diane said that taking courses in forensics such as SANE, localized law training such as OVC-TTAC, trauma care seminars such as MHANYS are very helpful. “There are many different directions you can go in the field so it really is the world is yours as to what education you want to get,” Diane Olmstead. Conclusion Writing this professional plan was important, because I got to see more in depth as to what I wanted to do and what I need to do to get where I want to be after graduation. To be where I want to be I need to do volunteer work at the local Rape Crisis Center and will have to get my NYS Rape Crisis Certification, continue to go to school to get by bachelor’s degree to start with. As I get more comfortable in my position, I will decide where to further my education.
Tiffany Allen CJ 210: Criminal Investigation Professor Cindy Johnson March 3, 2013 In Today’s society there are many specific ethical considerations that need to be addressed when investigating a specific crime. In this report I will talk about Rape and Homicide. Rape is when the victim is forced to have sexual intercourse. A Homicide is a person who kills another human being. Other questions that I will also talk about are how to reduce ethical problems in an investigation, what prosecution problems could arise and what ethical issues are related to the prosecution.
Summary Response Amadeo Constanzo is the author of “Do You Really Think You Are a Good Writer?” and he believes that if you are in a remedial class English then “instead of wasting time and energy on negative thoughts, use the energy and time to improve your writing” or other skills. Constanzo supports remedial classes because even the best athletes train to be better just like a writer practices to become a better writer. I very much agree with Constanzo because the majors I currently have would eventually deal a lot with presentation documents. I am also in remedial English and I know that it would help me becoming a better writer. Benjamin Franklin once said “If a man empties his purse into his head no one can take it away from him.
Why did I enroll in JROTC? I always seek places for improvement. I thought that JROTC would help me to find ways to improve on my weaknesses and help me to strengthen my strengths even more. JROTC main mission is to “motivate young people to become better citizens”, and I want to be a part of those young people. This program also builds leaders.
Completing my homework without procrastinating and using my resources such as my teachers when I need help are methods I use to accomplish this short term goal. I am eager to attain my Bachelor's Degree (hopefully by 2015) and am planning to continue here at pcc for my associate degree. One of the driving motivations of my education is my children. I want them to see that it is possible to go beyond what one has, to grasp what could be. I want to finish not only my Bachelor's, but my Masters degree for myself, for them, and for the people I hope to work with I have always tried to set clear targets and reach them whatever happens.
Introduction Forensic science has evolved into a necessity for the criminal justice world. Before the development of forensic science, many of the cases heavily relied upon confessions and testimonies of the witnesses. Forensic science has given police officers the ability to efficiently and effectively collect, analyze, and process evidence. Without forensic science, criminals would be committing the same crimes repeatedly. While criminals get more creative, the criminal justice system and forensic science specialists have to update the techniques and tools that are used while obtaining evidence for the new crimes.
The effectivesness of sentences on sexual crime on rehabilitation and re-offending rate. Abstract Sexual crimes has always been a very serious matter because there is always a huge impact on the victims which will later on affect them, even for the rest of their life. Also, it is an important factor for the offenders who had committed sexual crimes to rehabilitate in order to commit themselves into the society. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate the effectiveness of the existing sentencing system on sexual offences. With the increasing re-offending rate in recent years, it is a fundamental importance to understand those factors affecting the people to commit sexual crimes and the reasons of the reoffending.
