Introduction Developing a professional plan is an important step to take both as a student and as a professional. This is because it helps you to look at your options closer. It will help you to analyze what you are considering to do, so you know what to expect when moving on to the next aspect in your career. They are to help the victim understand that what has happened is NOT their fault, no matter the circumstances. Paralegals need to observe, and receive information from all sources needed for a case. Develop goals and plans to complete your work. They also must represent the law office to outside agencies and people. The need to provide information to others in the office, perform legal research, mediate, search legal records, examine data, and file documents in court. As a paralegal you must obtain an associate’s degree and be certified as a paralegal. Perform yearly refresher training courses. They offer as web seminars, phone conferences, and classes. The average salary for a paralegal is $52,200. Job trends are expected to rise 18% from 2010 to 2018 in the United States and 11% for New York. (onetcenter.org) Reasons for choosing career choices I love the responsibilities associated with my career choice, I want to be able to help others get past what has happened to them and help them move towards a better place in their life. I did have trouble coming up with anything as far as growth trends, but I feel as more people learn about this line of work I will be able to grow with it. I am content with the starting salary for my career choice and feel as I become better educated that I will move up just fine. There is a required NYS Rape Crisis Certification, but other than that, Diane said that taking courses in forensics such as SANE, localized law training such as OVC-TTAC, trauma care seminars such as MHANYS are very helpful. “There are many different directions you can go in the field so it really is the world is yours as to what education you want to get,” Diane Olmstead. Conclusion Writing this professional plan was important, because I got to see more in depth as to what I wanted to do and what I need to do to get where I want to be after graduation. To be where I want to be I need to do volunteer work at the local Rape Crisis Center and will have to get my NYS Rape Crisis Certification, continue to go to school to get by bachelor’s degree to start with. As I get more comfortable in my position, I will decide where to further my education. Recommendations to another student With preparing to write my professional plan, I really had to research the fields I was interested in to figure out what three careers interested me. For my first choice, I knew what I wanted to do, but I just did not know what the job was categorized as. I believe doing this really worked with helping me know exactly what I need to do and gave me avenues as to who to talk to in the field that can help me along the way.
