This is a sad, sad tale of two very close friends Whose names were George and Lennie. They dreamt of having their very own ranch But first, they needed some money. A job at a ranch south of Soledad Harvesting grain for lunch Was what they needed to start off at Fifty dollars a month. Lennie was always in some trouble Because he was so strong. Any animal that he would pet Didn't stay alive for long. George was always mad at Lennie. Lennie wasn't bright. So George just asked Lennie To stay out of sight. But George always stood up for Lennie Even if he was mad. And George always comforted Lennie When Lennie was sad. When George had free-time He went with some workers to the town. They left Lennie and some others Talking in the barn. When the boss's daughter-in-law Came inside the barn, Lennie suddenly wished that he Wasn't on that farm. Lennie knew that the girl would get Him in tons of trouble. So when she asked him any questions, All he did was mumble. The girl told Lennie her hair was soft. She told him he could feel it. Lennie really liked soft things. She knew he couldn't resist it. Lennie felt the girl's soft hair, And it wasn't very long. When she pulled her head away, Lennie just held on. By accident and not on purpose, Lennie had just killed her. He knew that her husband would Come soon and avenge her. Her husband wanted to kill Lennie In a very painful way. George didn't want Lennie to die, But he couldn't take Lennie away. George decided that he'd kill Lennie, So Lennie would not suffer. But George knew he couldn't kill Lennie Unless he became tougher. George found Lennie all alone Standing by the river. He put the gun to Lennie's head And slowly pulled the trigger.
