Understand the role of the social worker 1.1 Working relationships are different from personal relationships as there only personal to a point. Working relationships are based on policies and procedures between people on different levels with clear boundaries contracts and codes of practice. My responsibilities as a care assistant are to deliver a wide variety of very high standard services to service users. My role in home care include; dressing, grooming, assistance with getting up and going to bed, medication support and general domestic tasks. When I’m carrying out all of these, I remember person centred values which helps me to be able to do what’s right for the client or what the client wants before carrying out any activities for the day, I go through my clients care plan but I also ask family of the clients if there has been any changes for example if my client needs to be awake and ready for a certain time, earlier or later than usual set time.
Person-centred care also means treating residents with dignity and respect. Describe how a person-centred approach enables individuals with dementia to be involved in their own care and support. By working in a person centred way we are aware of the individuals needs and preferences so work in a way that is tailored to them. Good communication with service users encourages participation in activities therefore promoting equality within the care setting. The service user can gain the trust and understanding from the care worker and therefore communicate the needs that individual requires. Good communication amongst staff encourages a better working relationship and ensures all tasks are completed to a high standard. Good communication between staff members is important to ensure problems are picked up and solved quickly. Such as an elderly service user having a preference to a bath rather than shower, the service user can then communicate this information effectively to staff and pass this information on to their colleagues.
To answer this question the definition of client-centered care should be answered first. Client-centered care described from a professionals’ perspective is an approach to care “which embraces a philosophy of respect for, and a partnership with, people receiving services”. Seven key concepts of a client-centered approach include: autonomy/choice, partnership, responsibility, enablement, contextual congruence, accessibility, and respect for diversity (Corring, 1997). What things are included in the key concepts to this approach to care? Enablement is related to an emphasis on listening by the care taker, in order to do this SHH has created all private rooms on a new unit that they have just renovated.
