Demetrius Crouch Honors English 3 Mrs. Beveridge April 14, 2013 HIV/AIDS: Abstract HIV/AIDS is a disease that anyone that is practicing unsafe sex or sharing needles can contract. From children, to teenagers, to adults, it is important to take the proper precautionary measures to protect yourself from it. This is a disease that currently has no known cure, but there are very good treatments that will slow down the growth of the virus so that you will live longer. This disease used to have a very negative reputation, but over time people have come to be more compassionate about the situation. Programs have been created to try and stop the spread of this disease and many other diseases around the world.
_If I were the assistant in question in this scenario, the ethical school of thought I would subscribe to would be the Virtue Ethics school of thought. The Virtue Ethics school of thought focuses on practical wisdom as well as moral character to solve these types of ethical issues. In this case, the patient does pose a certain risk to the healthcare providers since he does carry the AIDS virus, but practical wisdom tells me that, through the use of proper PPE and using caution and awareness, this risk is minimal and can be virtually eliminated altogether. On the other hand, if treatment were to be refused to this patient based on this slight and avoidable risk, the repercussions of that refusal would be much greater and more profound on my life and career than the risk of contracting AIDS through this procedure would be. Through this school of thought, the solution to the problem becomes obvious and I would continue to treat the patient while protecting myself with the use of gloves and other PPE as appropriate to the procedure.
(Olesen, S. C.,) Together with the mental health that will come from being a good individual Blake should not have a problem getting a new position with a new company if Sycamore Pharmaceuticals decided to let him go or he could just decide to walk out on his own. With the risks as well as the rewards of being honest, there are risks in regards to lying to the FDA. “Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for the protection of the public health by assuring the safety, effectiveness and security of human drugs and biological products through the enforcement of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FDCA) and related regulations”.
Some of the main benefits of using these guidelines and the biomedical model however can be more easily seen when looking at an infection like HIV and AIDS. The stigma that surrounds these infections is so great that sometimes sufferers are ashamed to seek help or advice. Using the biomedical model, the patients can seek help from a doctor knowing they won’t have any blame put on
At Insite IDU must inject their own drugs and cannot be aided in the physical act of injection. Verbal guidance and some preliminary physical assistance is allowed which most IDU find helpful, however, the IDU that participated in the previous study conclude that; “…the rule against assisted injection at the SIF [is] a significant barrier to accessing health care, and therefore this policy should be re-evaluated” (6). Besides prevention of the spread of HIV/AIDS and HCV, Insite works hard to educate as many IDU as they can on safe injection. Education is a vital part of the services Insite offers and it should be given the same attention and dedication as prevention is given. This education should not only be limited to the patrons inside the safe injection facilities, but spread through word of mouth on the street.
Nonetheless, the health care facilities may see an increase in funding because they are not spending has much income in advertisement to educate individuals about HIV/AIDS. Meanwhile they are still contributing to the HIV/AIDS awareness. However, they can increase in technology to help promote and serve patients in their facilities. The purpose for this law is to fully educate individuals about the history of the HIV/AIDS virus where it comes from, how to prevent becoming infected, and ways that the virus is spread throughout the minority community. Also to inform individual what he/she can do to obtain the proper care from health care facilities and how he/she is better equipped to handle a deadly virus.
Seminar 1 When it comes to banking your baby’s cord blood and tissue, I would have to say that I would participate in storing the blood and tissue of the baby’s umbilical cord. There are many reasons why I would collect and store my baby’s blood and tissue. For the most part it’s a very safe and reliable action to take into consideration when you’re thinking about the health of the family and yourself. Banking on your newborn’s cord blood and tissue is very beneficial because you can use some of that saved collected blood and tissue to treat and cure diseases and infections. When it comes to public cord banking and private cord banking, there is a major difference.
Legalizing Marijuana Pamela Horton SOC 120 Introductions to Ethics & Social Responsibility George Greaves October 29, 2012 Some people believe that marijuana is not a drug it is a plant. Many my agree that it is a natural herb planted to help cope with stress of everyday hectic lives. Anything that alters your state of being, or have you doing things out of the norms is a drug. The pro-legalization argument was that if we legalize marijuana it could not be controlled and the efforts to try to control marijuana uses causes more problems than they solve. I feel that if we legalize marijuana we would have a bunch of fried brain lunatics running around committing all kinds of crimes.
For example, many people against this decision claim that it is not ethical due to the fundamental tenet of medical ethics which is “Do no harm” (Bender 37).This decision is very ethical because what is not ethical is letting an innocent person die instead of taking the route of assisted suicide. If the person suffering was a relative of another person will they think twice not to because it is their loved ones suffering. By defining ethics it is related to a moral principle in which many differ from principles and standards. Another debate can be that assisted suicide is not a constitutional right. Assisted suicide is a choice which the constitution does support freedom of choice.
We have medical professional teach about the spread of HIV/AIDS and how to keep safe if they are still using needles. My belief is trying to eliminate homelessness is the first step to help stop the spread of the disease within the homeless population. Educating the homeless on the disease itself is the second. I’ve seen first-hand that some just simply don’t care, but I think it’s worth trying. Getting the general population to care is hard and getting funding in this population is even
