The NCLB requires all states to utilize assessments to determine and report if a school has made adequate yearly progress (AYP) in the proficiency levels of all students. This is a relatively recent shift from local control of schools to centralized governance which is intended to improve education and eliminate harmful disparities in education quality (Ricci 342). Instead of school districts determining education standards, the state and federal governments provide the policy direction. One method to assess education performance and compliance with the centralized policy is the use of accountability measures - i.e., standardized tests. The NCLB, coupled with state policy, is intended to decrease inequality and set an objective measurement in place where school districts, schools, teachers, and even students can be held accountable for their progress or lack thereof.

This evidence-based framework emphasizes preventing school discipline problems. [It] provides ideas to support teaching, modeling and recognizing positive, appropriate behavior in schools and identifies systems for logically responding to classroom and individual student problems” (Dept. of Education. n.d.).
Attitude, Legislation, and Litigation The education of students with disabilities has changed drastically over the years. Twenty years ago, classrooms were nearly devoid of exceptional students; and if any were to be enrolled in the school, they were sent in a class merely to be looked after. However, in today’s classroom, students with disabilities are highly valued and recognized by legislation as individuals worthy of fair instruction, where they can be acquainted with society and taught how to function successfully on their own. Teachers country-wide are expected to do everything thing in their power to fill the needs of each individual student in their classroom. Schools have implemented IEPs and RtIs to assure parents that their children are receiving adequate attention in their schooling.
Do School Vouchers Improve the Quality of Education? Part I The school voucher issue regarding improvement of the quality of education has presented a wide range of relevant arguments, both in support of and against its application. The school voucher is basically a certificate that is issued by a government to parents and guardians of students as tuition in private schools. The school voucher was introduced in a bid to reimburse expenses of private schooling, rather than assigned state schooling. The school voucher is more or less an education tax credit.
Palmer and Bemis said that the overall advantages to year round education include: improved achievement, improved attendance, decreased discipline problems, increased motivation, and also increased opportunities for enrichment programs during the intersession. Despite a few disadvantages to year round education, the effectiveness is pretty good. It has many benefits, not only to students but to teachers, administrators, maintenance, and office workers as well. It also, helps with over crowding schools, due to the rising population in our country. There are many things that should be considered when a school is trying to decide if they want to adopt year round education for their institution.
Consider this directional hypothesis: Students with disabilities will show greater gains in test scores when enrolled in classrooms where peer tutoring is used consistently and correctly. (Adjust null accordingly) Then, in your methods section you can indicate that you used previous test scores (before peer tutoring) to compare with current (after peer tutoring) test scores. Null Hypothesis: When teachers compare students current and previous test scores, students with disabilities will show no change in their academic gains in classrooms where peer tutoring is used consistently and correctly. Definitions: peer tutoring, peer learning, cooperative learning, CWPT(class wide peer tutoring). Review of the Literature Student achievement has come to the forefront of the public eye in recent years.
Purpose School vouchers are a hot topic in Green Bay. Governor Scott Walker wants to pass school vouchers in 2013-14 school year. There are many pros and cons to having vouchers in a school district. I will try to give unbiased information on the topic to help families understand what school vouchers can do to the Green Bay Area Public Schools. A big pro to having school vouchers is that low income families will have a choice to send their child to a private school.
Howlin (1997) also suggested that young children with autism who receive the recommended early intervention have a much greater chance, later in life, of living independently, securing employment and developing meaningful and lasting friendships and relationships with long-term research showing benefits for children as they grow and develop. The result of Rogers’ research (Rogers, 1996) found that ASD children were benefited in various comprehensive treatment programmes. The findings showed that all the programmes provided the following benefits for young children with
Secondly, children increase social and cognitive development from positive influences that are communicated by teachers. Emphasis around Vygotsky’s theory will explain the basis of social interaction facilitating learning with the benefit of good communication (Eggen & Kauchak, 2010). Thirdly, teachers must develop high level of written and verbal communication skills. This will develop good relationships between the teacher, student and family leading to proper educational practices that will improve student’s overall outcomes will enhance their literacy skill. Finally, educators with effective communication skills prove an ability to adapt teaching methods to suit the needs of students they are supporting (Kearns, 2012), and with appropriate delivery of good communication, student learning increases.
Allowing children to be able to think independently and create their own behavior can be an effective way to allow for more autonomy, improving their motivation in many areas and get the confidence to achieve better grades in school. Pink explains that “A sense of autonomy has a powerful effect on individual performance and attitude” (88). Many parents will choose to raise and will motivate their children by how they were brought up as a child. While this may seem like a great way to raise a child, it could control motivation and behavior with the experience of pressure and demand. Parents might want to consider teaching their children about autonomous motivation which promotes greater conceptual understanding, better grades, enhanced persistence at school and in sporting activities, higher productivity, less burnout, and greater levels of psychological well-being.
