Actively encourage and support learners in becoming independent. Will lead learning “guided” groups, modelling concepts and language that the adult leading the learning has used. Will alter an activity or change the apparatus if an activity does not meet the learners needs to enable them to achieve or exceed the expected outcome. Are acutely aware of learners capabilities/prior learning/understanding and plan very effectively to build on these. The areas that I have assessed as “good” and therefore need improving are: Enable learners to access resources appropriately – I feel that I need to make more time to be able to show the children how they can get the best from the resources that they have available to them.
EYMP 1 Task 2 3.1 As a trainee practitioner i need to show the knowledge and understanding of how partnership with parents is important to the success of each individual child in the setting. Promoting an effective bond between the parents and professionals, this provides a source of strength throughout their time in the setting. This is so the practitioner can act on the advice and put it onto the planning. This advice can have more experience in different aspects of the child’s life. This then helps with the care and learning needs of all children as if the child has a disability which affects their learning. The teacher will have to get another professional in that knows what they are doing to help care for the child and help with the child’s learning. This means that the child will be getting a full learning experience and understand the lesson because it is easier for them.
More recently laws have begun to change due to the research that shows children benefit from having both parents involved in their parenting. Laws now look at the relationship the parent had with the child and the level of involvement before the divorce, this is based on the idea that consistent care by the same caregiver is best for the child as it is less stress on them to be separated from that attachment that they already had (Demo & Fine, 2010, p. 67-68). A child who does not have positive experiences with their early childhood education may suffer both academically and socially later on in life, lacking the proper groundwork toward a good, solid education, I believe it it extremely important to instill a positive outlook in a child regarding education and learning in general. It’s so vital that a child be exposed to various learning experiences in order to grow as both a person, future student, and finally (hopefully) a successful adult. That being said, I would now like to discuss my own personal experience with my own early childhood education, from as far back as I can remember: As a child, I grew up with a set of wonderful parents, whom have always been extremely supportive towards me in every aspect of my life. I have an older half-brother and half-sister from my dad’s previous marriage, and they would visit on the weekends, which I loved. My dad worked as a director in the field of market research, and my mom, who had previously worked in a medical office, stayed home the first six or so years of my life.
It was said that one ‘solution’ to the ‘problem’ of inequity was to ‘educate the parents’ (Thomson, P 2002, p. 3) and encourage them to ‘supervise’ their children whilst doing homework. This suggests that with the parent’s encouragement and reinforcement towards the child, they are more likely to want to succeed and feel they have the right to succeed, instead of there being a boundary between the advantaged and disadvantaged children. The parents of both Vicki and Thanh want the best for their children, to graduate and achieve a ‘university’ (Thomson, P 2002, p.2) degree. However Vicki is more likely to succeed because of her parent’s educational background and will be able to provide the support that she needs going through school, whereas Thanh will have to find other sources for educational help because his parents do not have the knowledge that he
Early Childhood Education Theorists Lev Vygotsky, Reggio Emilia, and John Dewey are three fundamental pioneers that espouse the notion of increasing children’s social development through the help and care of adults and members of the community. All of these theorist agree that developing self-awareness is critical to children’s overall comprehension of the world. However, these theorist offer different viewpoints on how children achieve optimal development. Vygotsky support the notion of assessing a children’s comprehension level by using what he coined the learning ‘Zone of Proximity Development’ (ZPD) which declares that although children are capable of working independently they may still struggle to complete task beyond their comprehension level, and thus will require the guidance and assistance of adults. Reggio Emilia focuses more on the role family centered care play in impacting children’s development.
We have age limits and restriction on many things, but why does are education system expect these young kids to make the right choices, ask for help and develop good study habits on their own. Our education system needs a new approach to resolve these issues. Teachers and parents need to be held responsible, for how well these kids do in school. We need come up with a new plan so these students aren’t left lost and helpless. Flunking students can be used as a positive tool by our education system.
