Terrorism- a nationalist response to the effects of globalization Globalization of economy politics and social issues has made people and groups more insecure and uncertain. One main consecuence of that insecurity is to look for a personal identity and to search for a cultural identity. Globalization is the phenomenon that explains growth to a global or world wide scale(wordnetweb.priceton.edu). Nationalism is the loyalty and devotion to a nation; especially: a sense of national conciousness (www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/nationalism). 1.
The territorial disputes, the domain of a civilization over another, fights on inheritance rights or trade routes are trying to solve through diplomacy and have failed, is when war has been declared. The story is written by blow of wars. In fact, history has always been written by victorious one. Therefore, our current civilization is largely a result of these wars. We would not be what we are without them.
How does nationalism lead to imperialism? Nationalism is the loyalty and devotion to one’s nation. In order to achieve nationalism, the country must have language, territory, literature, and history in common. Populism was based on people's dissatisfaction of the government. It appealed to the interests of the general people, and usually went against the interests of those in power.
America intervenes in many wars that it should not have. America has a past of fighting for freedom and wanting to prove itself to powerful European countries. Ever since gaining their independence in 1776, Americans have felt the need to prove themselves in the world stage and feel important to the rest of the world. Americans are power hungry, and want to help others just for the selfish need of wanting to appear like good samaritans. They donate to other countries and the needy in hopes of getting recognized and applauded for good deeds, never simply just for the good feeling of helping another human
Rather, evidence points to a hybrid of them all. The sensationalised press undoubtedly cultivated mass jingoism amongst the American public, sparking a hysteric challenge to McKinley’s political prestige. Despite early reluctance from business constituents, by 1898 Wall Street financiers were also pushing interventionist agendas, therefore providing weight to the Marxist interpretation of a more planned, economically-based US imperialism (certainly prominent in subsequent efforts to muzzle Cuban and Filipino independence). Internal Hawks continued to vehemently criticise McKinley’s hesitation. The spectacular continental expansion Westward and the advent of new technologies during the industrial revolution were rapidly allowing for new concepts and new propositions.
It proves how different people can be and how different people can believe and still cooperate under the same government and within the same borders. With the expansion of the United States came this belief or Manifest Destiny. Americans believed that it was their duty and responsibility to expand America. They believed that they needed to extend their “boundaries of freedom.” In doing so, they brought their form of government to those who appreciated it, and to those who felt it imposing on them, like many Native Americans. With the Great depression of America, American Exceptionalism was greatly changed.
The ambitions of imperialism lead to the desire to produce a great influence in regions annexed into America. Imperialism brought a lot of antagonist aspirations and created an ambient of suspicion and distrust. Those who had or still have faith and really wanted or want the best for their nation, would employ their authority to honor God and for the benefit of their people. Jesus educated, “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your minister, and whoever wants to be first among you must be a slave to all.” These words show that it is wrong to utilize one’s position for personal unjust gain, and that it is better to look for opportunities to help one’s people, especially those in need. People should also take these following words in
Control and wealth is a desire for power seeking individuals. An increase in land and raw resources benefits one on their expedition to success. A union of British North America and it’s colonies into a single nation would lead to an increase in land and power. Political deadlock, the threat of masses of invading Americans, and abolition of Corn Laws, all set British North America at a disadvantage. Combining under one political structure would solve many of the problems and instabilities that they were faced.
Other nations had put the squeeze on America by threatening their security as a powerful nation and their dominance of the Western Hemisphere. The values that had driven American expansion since the West was won were still strong in the minds of the people, and the economy was crying out for control of new markets around the world. America's status
Being a much more important actor in the global arena would allow the United Arab nation to be more resistant to the external influence. This is essential for nationalistic movements, as according to Kamrava, „Nationalist sentiments may also be awakened by developments elsewhere. Nationalism can at times assume an antithetical nature, being formed and expressed in opposition to something. That something is often the expressed identity of another nation—another nationalism—or an external development that awakens, or reawakens, a sense of national pride and self-assertion“ (Kamrava, 2005, p 69). This is extremely important for the Arab world as attempts for this has already been made in the 20th century by the pioneers of the Arab Nationalism, such as Nahas Pasha, Egyptian Prime minister, who established Arab Union Club in order of to protect the “Interests and Rights” of the Arab Nations from the outside influence and develop the road of Arab
