It was worth every question and worksheet to where I am now. I have had a great year and was faced with many challenges but all in all I did a pretty good job and improved all my English skills hugely. I’ve always been a good reader through school but even my reading skills improved this year. We read a selection of great books that have helped me understand big concepts. I felt that Night by Elsie Wesile and Anthem by Alice Hoffman should be taught next year because they were the most interesting and had the most impact on me as the reader.
Dear Classmate, A Child Called “It” is one of my favorite books. I read it for the first time in my speech class for my speech about child abuse. I had heard a lot about it and how good it was so I decided to read it. Unlike other novels lying around, this book caught my attention and kept me very interested, I could not put it down. It makes you think about what some kids go through everyday. This book was a definite eye opener to abuse.
Looking back on my English experience here at Torrance High I believe I have learned a lot. In my last year at middle school they had us pick our scheduled for the next year at Torrance High, I decided to go into the honors program for English( it was one of my stronger subjects). I got I think the best English 1 teacher in the school. Mr. Duvall taught me a better way to organize the information I had read. I got a B first semester.
I can honestly say that the teacher in the classroom did a great job with her students and I will be walking away with a bunch of awesome strategies and resources to take back to my own classroom to help with teaching reading and language arts. During this journey and through all of my observations, the teacher and myself had the same goal in mind and that was to make sure that we were educating the students to the
This book was one of my personal favorites because me and the main character, Anne, had a lot in common. Not only that, but everything you explained in this book, you explained with great detail, and it created imagery in my head. I had a good picture of everything that you talked about. For just about the whole story, I felt like Anne, and I felt like I was telling the story. You are a pretty good author.
As I continued in high school, we had to read "A Gathering of Old Men" by Ernest Gaines and "When I Was a Puerto Rican" by Esmeralda Santiago over the summer and write what was required of us. "When I Was a Puerto Rican" was the book that I found was more interesting and I felt that essay was better than the other. As my high school year went on, I noticed that my essay writing skills began to progress due to all of the writing provided. In the middle of Sophomore year, my English class started reading "Black Boy" by Richard Wright and had discussions which eventually lead to writing another essay. In History class for sophomore year there was a Global History Regents required.
This was the start of a new hobby that left behind another. I never again found that same level of desire to read. I still read here and thee in middle school when I had nothing else to do. Reading became a time filler not something I sought out to do. As I journeyed through high school I struggled to find motivation to read even the assigned novels and reading.
It made it easier to figure out exactly what she was looking for in my paper. It clarified some questions I had and made me realize that I can actually write a good paper when I put my mind to it and take the same time and effort as she does to correct our papers and apply to writing my own
Christina Waters EDRD 445 April 24, 2011 Mini Literacy Portrait essay This year, my literacy buddy was Ronnie. Ronnie is in the second grade and he loves to read and write. I was so excited to meet Ronnie for the first time because he seemed so enthusiastic about reading and writing and he really seemed to enjoy learning. I have learned so much about Ronnie over this year and I have seen him improve in many areas. Ronnie really seemed to at the “top” of his class and everybody noticed it in our EDRD 445 class.
