My Life as an English Student In school, English is one of the most important subjects there are. If I never received an education in English, I would speak the language very poorly. The same goes for probably all of us. I grew up in a household where English is occasionally spoken. I remember being in first grade and writing an adaptation to a well known story. I let my creativity flow and began to first truly explore the world of writing. after having my teacher read the story and getting her feedback, I felt so proud of myself. I remember in fifth grade, the teacher assigned me and my classmates a project that was due in two weeks. For the project, we had to write twelve poems. I remember staying up for hours, I tweaked my work to as close to perfection as I could. Even if I worked hard on the assignment, I felt as if I did horrible on it. After having my teacher read the material, my teacher told me that I was a great writer and that the poems were beautiful. Hearing her response made me feel victorious. After hearing all of these wonderful responses from my past teachers, it has sparked a light in me. It made me see writing in a whole new way. I now see writing as something that is empowerful. Picking up a book is like getting vacuumed into a whole new universe. If I find a book interesting, I find it difficult to put it down. Before fourth grade, I would never read. I thought of it as a waste of time, it seemed like something that was completely futile. That was the time I found the world of Harry Potter. I was introduced to an entirely different world that was calling my name. The thing I love the most about reading are all of the emotions that run through me at once.
